Hu Yitian Trending: Nearly Two Years Off-Screen, Fans Worry About His Career

Hu Yitian’s name has shot back up the Weibo hot search lately, but not exactly for the best reasons.

The star, best known for stealing hearts as Jiang Chen in A Love So Beautiful, has sparked heated debate after netizens realised he hasn’t filmed a single drama or variety project in nearly two years.

Yep — someone on Weibo actually went to the trouble of counting, clocking him at 673 days without joining a production.

The hashtag #胡一天673天没进组了 lit up Chinese social media on Tuesday, leaving fans and onlookers wondering: has Hu Yitian’s career run out of steam?

Hu Yitian Hints at Retirement? Actor Still Missing from Drama Sets After Two Years

Since leaving powerhouse agency Huace back in March 2023, Hu Yitian seems to have vanished from the filming world. While he’s still turning up at brand events and a few social gatherings — so fans can at least get a glimpse — no new drama has properly launched for him since Men in Love wrapped last May, or Blossoms in Adversity from April last year.

A fresh “melon” drama rumour popped up just last week, but whether that will actually go ahead is anyone’s guess.

Fans managed to catch him at the airport recently and, cheekily, asked when he’d be heading back to work.

Hu Yitian, ever the charmer, joked that he’d “retired” — but that lighthearted quip hasn’t exactly reassured supporters. Many say they’re still clinging to hope he’ll join a new crew soon, instead of vanishing completely from the drama scene.

Hu Yitian Sparks Retirement Rumours After Nearly Two Years Without Filming

So what’s the hold-up? Speculation is all over the place. Some reckon his new agency is simply too weak to land him lead roles, others believe he’s turned down supporting roles in fear of dropping his status, and some even blame “black materials” — basically negative gossip — for keeping producers at bay.

Plus, with so many fresh, handsome younger actors crowding the market these days, the competition is absolutely cut-throat.

During his Huace years, Hu Yitian was clocking in as many as three dramas a year, working almost non-stop. Now, since splitting with them, he seems to have fallen through the cracks.

“He used to be the go-to lead,” one netizen commented, “but he’s refusing smaller roles and doesn’t have a strong team behind him anymore.” Another added, “I still believe he’s essential to Chinese dramas. He’s got a special aura, and his acting is natural. He just needs the right opportunity.”

Whatever the real reason for this 673-day dry spell, it’s clear fans aren’t ready to let him fade away. Even if Hu Yitian teases about “retirement”, they’re rooting for his big comeback — hopefully sooner rather than later.
