Joe Chaw, Son of Malaysian Singer Gary Chaw, Publicly Confirms His First Relationship at Age 16 |
Well, the little boy who melted hearts on Where Are We Going, Dad? is now officially taken. Joe Chaw, son of Malaysian singer Gary Chaw, has just confirmed he’s in a relationship — and the internet’s collectively feeling the passage of time.
Now 16, nearly 17, Joe stirred up buzz online this week when he shared a series of photos, one of which featured his younger sister Grace and another girl.
Some sharp-eyed netizens quickly assumed the girl in the pic was his girlfriend and began leaving comments like, “Is this your gf?” Joe liked one of the comments, unintentionally fanning the flames of speculation.

But turns out, that wasn’t the full story. Joe later cleared up the confusion himself, responding in English:
“She’s not my gf, she’s my cousin’s [girlfriend].”
He explained that he liked the comment just to show he’d seen it, not to confirm anything, and added that as a Malaysian teen who isn’t fluent in Chinese, there was a bit of a language barrier at play.
But in a surprise move the very next day, Joe posted new photos that left no room for doubt. In them, he’s seen sitting with a girl on his lap, both looking super cosy and affectionate.

One photo even shows him puckering up for a kiss. And when fans asked if that was his girlfriend, Joe gave a straight-up answer:
“Yes.”

Though he didn’t tag or name her, the soft launch was enough to send fans — and longtime viewers of Where Are We Going, Dad? — into nostalgic mode.
“Wait, isn’t this the same Joe Chaw who used to cling to Gary on that show?” one netizen wrote.
“Time flies. Our little Joe is already dating!” another commented.
Joe Chaw first gained public attention back in 2014 when he appeared on Season 2 of the hit Chinese parenting reality show Where Are We Going, Dad? alongside his father Gary and sister Grace.

The show was a massive success and helped shape Gary Chaw’s image as a loving (and sometimes hilariously stressed) dad. Joe, with his gentle personality and sweet face, quickly became a fan favourite.
And now, a decade later, he’s gone from toddler to teenager — and clearly, the fans are watching just as closely as ever.
