From Applause to Critique: The Rocky End of “In the Name of Justice” and What’s Next for Director Fu Dongyu |
Chinese crime drama In the Name of Justice officially wrapped up on 9 July — but instead of a standing ovation, it left a trail of disappointment among viewers.
The finale, which was meant to tie together months of plot tension and character development, has instead been branded “unsatisfying” and “rushed” by a large chunk of the audience.
Many felt the story spiralled into forced twists and drawn-out scenes, while some even questioned the casting choices made for key roles.

“In the Name of Justice” Ending Slammed by Viewers |
Rather than ignore the wave of criticism, director Fu Dongyu stepped up and issued a statement via social media — and his tone was refreshingly honest.
“Whether it’s praise or harsh critique, I’m taking it all in and summarising everything,” Fu Dong Yuwrote.
“We’re reflecting on a number of points — the slow pacing at the beginning, the overly long scenes, even the possibly miscast roles. Everything’s under review.”
Fu DongYu also took a moment to thank the cast, crew, and fans who stuck with the project throughout its long journey, calling In the Name of Justice “a result of three years of hard work.”

The drama starred Zhang Yi, Li Guangjie, and Jiang Xin, and had earned a decent following thanks to its gritty storyline and character-driven mystery. Unfortunately, the finale didn’t quite land the way fans had hoped.
Fu Dongyu ended his message with a heartfelt farewell to the drama, and a quiet promise that he’s taking the feedback seriously for future works.
“It’s goodbye for now to this project, but I hope to see you all again in the next one.”
