Yes, the Kiss Was Real — ‘Coroner’s Diary’ Fans Spot Missing Scene, Producer Spills the Tea |
If you’ve been feeling like something was missing from Coroner’s Diary, turns out you're not imagining things. Netizens — being the detectives they are — noticed that a kissing scene between leads Qin Wan and Yan Chi never actually aired, despite clear behind-the-scenes receipts. And now, the show’s producer Quan Haojin has finally confirmed: yes, they filmed it — but no, it didn’t make the final cut.
Starring Li Landi and Ao Ruipeng, Coroner’s Diary recently crossed the 10,000 popularity mark on iQIYI — a decent feat that’s sparked plenty of buzz, mostly thanks to the chemistry between the leads. Viewers have been loving the murder-meets-romance vibe as Qin Wan and Yan Chi tackle strange cases together while slowly warming up to each other.
"Wait, Where's the Kiss?"
It all kicked off when fans noticed something a little… off about a certain episode. In a key emotional scene where Qin Wan and Yan Chi share a close moment, many viewers felt the framing looked suspicious — like the camera deliberately avoided showing something. “Their heads were so close, how did that turn into just a hug?” one fan asked.
Cue the online sleuths. Soon enough, crew-taken BTS shots surfaced online, clearly showing Li Landi and Ao Ruipeng filming a kissing scene in the exact same outfits and location. Naturally, fans were quick to ask: “What happened to our kiss?!”
Producer Speaks Up: Yes, It Was Filmed — But We Cut It for a Reason
Responding to the buzz, producer Quan Haojin confirmed that the kiss was very much real — just not in the final cut. He explained that during editing, the team decided the scene felt a bit awkward considering there were other characters present. “At that moment, Yan Li and Yue Ning were watching. We thought a hug would feel more appropriate in front of an audience,” he said.
Quan also cheekily added, “If you really want to see it, then I will fulfil your request.” Fans are now hoping that means the deleted kiss might eventually see the light of day — maybe in a bonus clip or director’s cut?

Fans Divided — But Everyone Agrees: The Chemistry’s There
While many viewers were gutted the kiss got binned, others felt the choice made narrative sense. “It’d be weird to lock lips with two other people staring at you,” one commenter wrote. “The hug was more intimate in its own way.”
Regardless, one thing’s clear — Coroner’s Diary might’ve left the kiss on the cutting room floor, but it hasn’t killed the vibe. With strong performances from both leads and a decent mix of crime-solving and slow-burn romance, the drama’s definitely got people talking.
