Just when you thought the dust had settled in the Zhang Jizhong–Fan Xinman saga, think again. The legendary Chinese film producer, best known for bringing classic wuxia stories like The Legend of the Condor Heroes and Journey to the West to life, is back in headlines – not for a new TV adaptation, but because his ex-wife has once again come swinging.
At 74, Zhang might be a household name in the world of Chinese historical epics, but off-screen, things have been far less glamorous. His second ex-wife, Fan Xinman – also a director – has now publicly accused him of cheating and secretly moving RMB 300 million worth of property and stocks out of joint ownership while they were still married. That’s right, she’s alleging some serious behind-the-scenes business during their marriage.
But Zhang isn’t having it. In a fiery response on social media, the veteran filmmaker called the claims “rumours and slander”, and vowed to “protect his current family at all costs.” And if you know anything about Zhang Jizhong, you know he doesn’t back down easily.
“For nine years I’ve been persecuted endlessly by different means. I’ve been enduring it,” he posted. “But people should know what’s good for them!”
He added that his conscience is “clear,” and threw some heavy shade at his past, stating that only now – with his current wife Du Xinglin – does he feel like he has a real family.
Zhang and Du, his former assistant, tied the knot just a year after his divorce from Fan. Despite their 31-year age gap, the pair now share four children together. He also has a grown daughter, producer Zhang Yuxin, from his first marriage to Wang Ding.

Fan Xinman wasn’t about to let that statement go unanswered. She clapped back online, and it was… spicy.
“@Zhang Jizhong Stop provoking me! Stop sending people to follow me! Stop mentioning me in any setting!” she wrote. “As for the truth – just do a DNA test on the illegitimate child. That will make everything clear. Do you dare?”
Yep, she’s calling for a DNA test, folks. Not exactly the peaceful post-divorce co-parenting vibes.
She also made it crystal clear she wants to be left alone, referencing previous court rulings that apparently ordered Zhang to stop talking about her in public. That ruling came after he posted their divorce agreement online without redacting personal details – a move that got him fined for violating her privacy.

The two were married back in 2002 and split in 2016, but their legal back-and-forth has outlived the marriage itself. Property disputes, privacy issues, and now public mudslinging have kept the story alive nearly a decade on.

“Evil cannot prevail over justice! My heart is sincere, I never failed in my duty to anyone,” he wrote, sounding almost like one of his TV heroes.
With Fan Xinman pushing for a DNA test and Zhang vowing to protect his reputation and loved ones, it doesn’t look like either side is backing down anytime soon.
