Tracy Chu Hints at Return to Acting While Balancing Motherhood and Legal Career

Hong Kong’s favourite multi-hyphenate, Tracy Chu (朱千雪), is officially back in the game – but on her own terms. After a quieter year focusing on her family and professional life, the actress-turned-lawyer-and-lecturer has just revealed she’s renewed her contract with TVB, teasing a return to acting… if the right role pops up.

Tracy and her husband, physician Justin Ng (吳昆倫), welcomed their baby boy last May, and it’s safe to say her hands have been properly full. Between juggling legal work, university lectures, and nappy changes, it’s no wonder her appearances on-screen have been rare lately. But Tracy isn’t closing the curtain just yet.

“The company’s always been super respectful of my time,” she shared during a recent interview. “Whether I was studying or working in law, they never interfered. If there’s work, they just ask if I’m available. That kind of freedom is really rare in this industry.”

And that’s precisely why she’s stayed loyal to TVB instead of going independent. While many celebs are choosing to set up their own agencies these days, Tracy prefers sticking with the same team she’s been working with for years. “I’ve got a great relationship with my manager – it’s been a smooth ride all along,” she said with a smile.

So, are we finally getting Tracy Chu back on our screens? The answer’s yes – but she’s being smart about it.

“I’m definitely open to onscreen work, but I’ve got more on my plate now, so I’ll be choosier. Not picky – just intentional. If I’m going to commit time to something, I’d love for the role to challenge me or mean more.”

Luckily, she’s got strong support at home. Justin, despite his jam-packed schedule as a doctor, is hands-on when it comes to parenting. “He helps a lot,” Tracy said gratefully. But like many new mums, she admits to missing couple time. “When we go out, we’re always watching the baby cam or rushing home after dinner. It’s hard to really switch off.”

Their son, now a bright and babbling one-year-old, has started calling them “Daddy” and “Mommy” – though Tracy reckons he doesn’t quite know what he’s saying yet. Parenthood’s definitely been an adventure. She shared a few classic “first trip with baby” tales:

  • When the boy was just six months old, they headed to Taiwan – with 30 outfits packed for a three-day getaway.

  • The flight? “He cried, needed milk, and then threw it all up on landing.”

  • At nine months, they tried again with South Korea – but had to cut their outings short constantly thanks to baby nap schedules.

Her next big goal? A proper trip back to Canada, where she grew up and where her parents are still based. “That’s the plan. I want him to experience where I come from.”

So, with mum life in full swing, courtroom duties continuing, and her name back on the TVB roster – Tracy Chu’s comeback isn’t just a return to acting. It’s a balancing act in motion. And honestly? She’s nailing it.
