“Second Take” to Premiere in July, Merging Taiwanese GL Storytelling with Mainland Influences (The L Taiwan)

The highly anticipated Taiwanese girls’ love (GL) drama Second Take has been officially slated for a July 9th premiere, with new episodes set to air twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays. 

While confirmation is still pending, fans expect the series will be made widely accessible via The L’s official YouTube channel, reflecting the producer’s ongoing commitment to international reach and inclusivity.

Second Take is poised to deliver a compelling narrative centred around two former lovers forced to collaborate in a professional setting despite their fraught romantic history. 

Xing En stars as Yize, a coolly detached, introverted director with a distinctive INTJ personality profile, while Ada Chow portrays Zong Xia, an upbeat, socially adept actress exuding a classic ENFP temperament. 

The drama promises to explore their reconnection through a “journey of restrained desire, missed opportunities, and slow-burning intimacy,” sure to resonate with audiences seeking emotionally layered storytelling.

The project is helmed by The L Taiwan, previously known simply as The L or Rela. Originally launched in mainland China as a lesbian dating platform, the group transitioned into drama production, backing both censored and uncensored GL titles including The Girls on Rela, Red Devil and Heroine Su, The L Bang, X-Love, and The Female Doctor and the Rabbit 2.

Since relocating operations to Taiwan in late 2024, The L has continued to draw cast and crew from mainland China. As a result, Second Take is likely to showcase stylistic  inand narrative elements familiar to Chinese audiences, setting it apart from other Taiwanese GL series currently on air. 

This blend may represent a creative workaround to Chinese content restrictions while still serving local and global viewers with authentic, resonant GL stories.

With its strong cast, cross-cultural production background, and a plot exploring the fragile ties of lost love, Second Take is positioned to become a significant addition to Taiwan’s expanding girls’ love genre — and one to watch when it premieres this July.
