New Drama Alert: Zhou Yiran and Zhang Jingyi Reunite for Tense Mystery Series (WeTV) |
Backed by Xixi Pictures and Tencent, Reborn is heading not just to Chinese audiences but will also be made available on international platforms, so fans abroad won’t have to wait long to get in on the suspense.
The Premise: Sisterhood, Secrets, and a Search for the Truth
Set in 2007, Reborn follows Qiao Qingyu (played by Zhang Jingyi), a quiet yet sharp 16-year-old who moves to a new city with her family after her older sister Baiyu dies under mysterious circumstances. The move is meant to help them start fresh – to leave behind the gossip, the looks, the whispers – but Qingyu can’t let it go. Something about her sister’s death just doesn’t sit right.
With the help of her rebellious and slightly chaotic schoolmate Ming Sheng (Zhou Yiran), Qingyu begins digging into the past – and what she finds is anything but comforting. The deeper they go, the more tangled the mystery becomes, uncovering hidden relationships, family tension, and secrets that people would rather stay buried.
A Cast That’s More Than Capable
Zhang Jingyi’s coming off a fiery performance as a fierce fighter in Legend of Zang Hai, but Reborn shows a different side to the 25-year-old – delicate, emotional, and quietly determined. She’s brilliant as Qingyu, a girl balancing fragility with unshakeable grit.
As for Zhou Yiran, 24, his portrayal of Ming Sheng brings just the right amount of cheeky charm and emotional depth. Together, the pair’s chemistry doesn’t just work – it practically sizzles, whether they’re bickering in class or chasing leads in the dead of night.
Also joining the cast are Wu You and Tim Huang Xiyan in special guest roles, alongside Liu Dan, Wang Yidi, and more.
A School Drama, But Not Like You Know It
Don’t let the school uniforms fool you – this isn’t your standard campus fluff. Reborn trades in romance tropes for emotional weight, with each episode pulling you deeper into a dark puzzle. Think family trauma, small-town conspiracies, and a girl determined to get justice no matter the cost.
If you’re into character-driven stories with a strong emotional core and a bit of edge, Reborn might just be the summer drama you’ve been waiting for.
