| Mayday Band with Zhang Ruonan (Weibo) |
Taiwanese rock legends Mayday are once again stirring up buzz — not with a new single, but because of an old statement that’s come back to haunt fans: they once said they’d stop after 10 albums. With their 9th already out and the 10th on the horizon, are we really heading into the band’s final chapter?
Singer Della Ding Dang, who’s been musically linked to Mayday since her 2007 debut, has now offered a response that’s calming nerves (a little).
In a recent interview, Della brushed off the breakup speculation with a smile, saying:
“Just listen and don’t overthink it.”
She was clear — while the band might’ve made that declaration years ago, their passion for music is far from fading. Della went on to praise frontman Ashin as a "hardcore workaholic" who’s never once strayed from his original love for creating music.
“His drive hasn’t changed one bit since the start. He’s still chasing that same spark.”

The Beatles Inspiration and the ‘10 Album’ Legacy
Long-time fans might recall: Ashin once shared that the idea of capping it at 10 albums came from their idols, The Beatles, who only released ten studio records before calling it a day. That inspired Mayday to set the same symbolic limit.
And now? With nine albums out in the world, the countdown is getting very real. Their 2025 Back to That Day tour just wrapped up its Hong Kong leg with Ashin dropping a pretty emotional line on stage:
“Honestly, we don’t know if we’ll be back next year. After the 5525 concert tour, we’ll start working on the 10th album. If we don’t return, wait for us where you are.”
Cryptic, sure. But farewell? Not quite confirmed.
Della x Mayday: A Long-Running Creative Bond
Della Ding Dang isn’t just another voice commenting from the sidelines. Her connection with Mayday runs deep. Several of her best-loved hits — like “Fireworks” and “I Love Him” — were either written or produced by Mayday members. In 2024, Believe Music even dubbed her the “Queen of 100 Million Views”, cheekily noting how some of her music videos outperformed her Mayday “senior brothers”.
From musical collabs to playful banter, Della’s journey has always run parallel to the band — and she’s clearly not ready to hear goodbye just yet.
So... Is Mayday Actually Breaking Up?
In classic Mayday fashion, the answer is somewhere between maybe and not really. Album 10 might be the final studio album, sure — but whether that spells the end of the band altogether? That’s still very much up in the air.
For now, Della’s advice might be the best we’ve got: don’t overthink it. Just keep listening.
