“He Looks So Handsome!” – B.I in Baju Melayu Sends Malaysian Kpop into Meltdown |
Malaysian fans were absolutely buzzing over the weekend – and no, it wasn’t because of sambal or durian. It was thanks to K-pop rapper and soloist Kim Hanbin, better known as B.I, who showed up at his recent fansign event in South Korea looking unexpectedly festive in... a Baju Melayu.
Yup. The 28-year-old “Tasty” singer got the full Malaysian fashion upgrade, courtesy of a thoughtful fan who gifted him a traditional Cekak Musang-style Baju Melayu set – complete with a songkok and sampin to match. It all went down during his Korean fansign event over the weekend, and the photos?
Well, let’s just say they did numbers online.

According to fans at the venue, B.I didn’t hesitate to try the outfit on with a little help from his staff. Even though it was clearly a bit snug (cue him awkwardly tugging at the top during the event), that didn’t stop him from flashing a proud smile and posing for fans who were absolutely living for the moment.
Within hours, social media was flooded with clips and pics of Hanbin looking sharp in his new fit – with Malaysian netizens leading the hype train.
Comments ranged from “He looks like a raya prince” to “That sampin matches his hair so well, it's unreal!” One fan even pointed out how well the colour choice complemented his overall look, sparking a whole thread praising the fan who prepped the outfit.

Another heartwarming moment? A video surfaced showing a fan talking to B.I about how viral the outfit went in Malaysia. His reaction? Humble as ever.
He laughed and admitted the attire was “a bit too small,” but he seemed genuinely touched by the fan support. Fingers crossed he gets a properly fitted one when he touches down in KL later this year.

ICYMI, B.I is set to return to Malaysia for his “The Last Parade Tour” in Kuala Lumpur this September, following up his sold-out gig in 2024 that had fans begging for more even after the encore.
And if this little Baju Melayu teaser is anything to go by, Malaysian iKONICs (and non-fans too) will be pulling up in full traditional attire themselves for the big day.
Honestly, seeing K-pop stars embrace local culture in such a sincere way never gets old. Whether it’s ATEEZ or GOT7’s Mark Tuan, there’s something special about idols taking that extra step to connect with fans across borders.
So... what do you think? Should B.I go full Baju Melayu mode on stage in Malaysia too? Maybe even add in a little zapin?
