| Taiwan Host Jacky Wu Clarifies Remarks About Korean Singers During Interview With MAMAMOO’s Solar |
Veteran Taiwanese host Jacky Wu has finally spoken up about the online noise surrounding his latest episode of Mr. Player, where a cheeky comment during MAMAMOO Solar’s guest appearance sparked a bit of a stir.
Solar recently showed up on the long-running variety show to promote her Chinese EP, Floating Free – a rare and exciting crossover for K-pop fans. Everything seemed all good until Jacky, while complimenting her vocals, dropped a remark that rubbed netizens the wrong way.
“I’m quite surprised. Many Korean girls are beautiful, but when they start singing, wow, it’s really bad to listen to,” he said candidly – apparently meant as praise for Solar, but quickly taken by some as a jab at other Korean singers.
Cue the online backlash. Social media lit up with viewers accusing Jacky of being rude, tone-deaf, and even outdated. A few even called for him to step down from the entertainment scene altogether, saying he’s out of touch with the times.
But Jacky? He’s not fussed.

Speaking to the press, the iconic host dismissed the uproar, saying he’s long been used to this kind of targeted heat. “The truth will become clearer as time goes by,” he said calmly. “If you really think it was a problem, why not just ask Solar herself if she felt offended?”
“I was simply complimenting Solar – she’s beautiful and sings really well. What’s wrong with that?” he added, standing firm on his intent.
Jacky Wu also revealed that he and Solar had recently performed together at the 11th anniversary event for Mr. Player, and he couldn’t have asked for a better guest. “We’ve always kept that warm Taiwanese spirit – ‘It’s great to have friends come from afar’. Whether it’s artists from here or overseas, we always welcome them with open arms.”
Netizens remain divided – some say he should’ve worded things more carefully, while others reckon it’s just a storm in a teacup. As for Solar? She hasn’t publicly commented yet, but fans are keeping an eye out to see if she’ll address it down the line.
Either way, looks like Jacky’s not losing sleep over it.
