Huang Xiaoyun Caught in Copywriting Clash? Studio Apologises Over Promo Text Drama |
Chinese singer Huang Xiaoyun’s name is buzzing online again — and not for the reasons she might’ve hoped. The C-pop vocalist recently dropped her new single "四点的海棠花未眠" but it wasn’t the song itself that got everyone talking. Instead, it’s the copywriting used to promote it that’s stirred the pot.
Netizens were quick to point out that the wording and structure of the promo material — from her Weibo caption to the music platform’s album blurb — bore a striking resemblance to the ones used for Shan Yichun’s track Zhu Yu (珠玉). And we’re not talking just vague similarities — fans noticed line-for-line echoes and a rather familiar poetic tone.

Naturally, that sparked heated discussions online, especially within the C-pop scene where originality is everything. Was it a coincidence? A careless homage? Or a straight-up copy-paste job?

Huang Xiaoyun’s team didn’t wait long to respond. On 9 June, her studio, charmingly named “@黄霄雲的雲上面包坊” (literally: Huang Xiaoyun’s Cloud Bakery), issued a statement addressing the matter head-on.
They explained that all the promo materials, including the social media captions and album description, were supplied by the distribution label. These were shared with her team on 6 and 8 June, just before the official release of the track.
“Due to negligence in this process, the promotional content ended up having an impact — and may have even infringed upon the original creator’s rights,” the studio admitted. “We sincerely apologise to Shan Yichun, to the fans who feel let down, and to Huang Xiaoyun herself.”

The studio confirmed that all related text has now been taken down and said they’re pushing the distribution label to issue their own formal apology and review their internal practices.
While the controversy has undeniably cast a bit of a shadow over the release, many fans are also appreciating the swift response and accountability shown by Huang Xiaoyun’s side — even if some reckon the whole thing could’ve been avoided with just a bit more attention to detail.
So far, Shan Yichun hasn’t commented publicly, but netizens are watching closely to see if this apology will settle the dust… or if there’s more drama brewing in the clouds.
