Gong Jun Injures Eye While Filming Abroad – Fans Not Having It With His Studio’s Lax Support (Weibo Super Topic) |
Chinese actor Gong Jun has sparked concern after sustaining a minor eye injury while filming the travel-food variety show Wow! The World (Chinese title: Di Qiu Chao Xin Xian / 地球超新鲜) in Italy. What started off as a light-hearted segment turned into an unexpected safety incident – and fans are now turning their attention not just to his wellbeing, but also to the studio’s questionable management behind the scenes.
According to an official statement from Gong Jun's studio, the actor scratched the area around his right eye socket while trying to dodge an object during a game. Thankfully, the injury didn’t affect his eyeball. On-site medics stepped in quickly, disinfected the wound, and bandaged it on the spot. The studio insisted that the issue had been handled properly and that there are “no serious concerns” moving forward.
They also mentioned that they’ve since coordinated with the show’s production team and will be ensuring professional medical personnel are on standby at all future shoots – fair enough, but fans aren’t entirely reassured.
One Centimetre from Disaster? Fans Left Shaken
Clips from the shoot, which have been making the rounds on Weibo, show a visible red wound just about a centimetre from Gong Jun’s right eye. That tiny bit of space might’ve been the difference between a light scratch and a serious accident – and fans are furious that safety precautions weren’t tighter from the get-go.

One fan wrote bluntly, “Gong Jun’s dedication to his work is admirable, but that’s no excuse for the studio staff to sit idly by and do nothing.”
Another commented, “A group of ‘useless’ staff only realised their artist was injured at the end – no one even accompanied him on the shoot!”
Where’s the Team When It Counts?
Much of the frustration seems to stem from the perception that Gong Jun’s team is simply not present when it matters most. Netizens pointed out that only a couple of his staff – reportedly a makeup artist and a photographer – travelled with him for this international shoot. The rest? Allegedly back in China, enjoying their time off.
“Funny how the whole team turns up in full force when there’s a brand event or a red carpet,” one post read. “But when it comes to actual work abroad, it’s radio silence. Enjoyment first, safety last?”
There are also grumbles about this not being the first time Gong Jun’s studio has been caught slacking. Accusations of freeloading, laziness, and a lack of basic care for the artist’s wellbeing have resurfaced. Many fans feel the studio’s statement was more damage control than genuine accountability.

Gong Jun Injures Eye on Variety Show Set, Fans Blast Studio for Lax Safety |
Variety Shows and Safety on Set
While Gong Jun’s injury may not be serious this time, it has reignited wider concerns about how celebrity safety is handled on chaotic variety show sets – especially those filmed overseas, where access to full support teams can be limited.
The production of Wow! The World, which is known for its mix of travel adventures and culinary challenges, may seem lighthearted on-screen, but the behind-the-scenes demands are intense. Celebrities are often pushed into spontaneous, physically active games – all for viewer entertainment.
This incident is a reminder that basic safety protocols shouldn’t be an afterthought. As fans have pointed out, it’s not just about patching things up after an accident – it’s about prevention, proper staffing, and actually showing up for the artist.
