Feud's Bai Lu and Joseph Zeng Reveal Pain Behind the Drama’s Most Iconic Scenes

Feud (2025) Behind the Scenes: Bai Lu’s Breakdown and Joseph Zeng’s Heatstroke Kiss
Joseph Zeng Says He ‘Couldn’t Breathe’ Filming Feud’s Flying Kiss Scene with Bai Lu
Turns out, the dreamy romance in Feud (执念如影) came with a heavy dose of real-life pain—both emotional and physical. Bai Lu and Joseph Zeng (Zeng Shunxi), who played the tragic lovers Hua Ruyue and Bai Jiusi, recently opened up about how some of the most beloved scenes nearly broke them behind the scenes.

During a livestream with co-star Liang Yongqi, Bai Lu reflected on one particularly devastating moment: Hua Ruyue losing her child. “In the script, the baby dies in her arms,” she shared. “I’m not married and I’ve never been a mum, so I honestly didn’t know where to start emotionally.”

Instead of talking it through, both Bai Lu and Joseph Zeng sat alone with their headphones on, zoning in on a haunting track composed by Lu Hu for the show.

“We didn’t say anything to each other that day. Just sat quietly and built up the emotion,” Bai Lu said. “That whole day, the silence said more than words.” It’s no wonder the scene hit audiences hard—it came from a very raw place.

And it wasn’t just the emotional toll that pushed them to the brink. One now-iconic scene—that aerial kiss on Xiaoqiu Mountain—nearly knocked Joseph Zeng out cold.

“We had to kiss while literally dangling in the air, spinning like pancakes with our faces smushed together. It was blazing hot, and I couldn’t breathe after the kiss!” he laughed.

Bai Lu jumped in with a cheeky add-on: “And you got heatstroke that day!”

Talk about suffering for the art.

Despite the exhaustion, the result was pure magic on screen. Viewers couldn’t stop raving about the chemistry between the leads, especially in the second half of the drama when the tone shifted from tragic to tender.

Joseph Zeng’s Bai Jiusi goes through a massive shift after falling into a coma—waking up with no memory of his past, except for one lingering feeling: knowing that Hua Ruyue is his wife.

From cold and calculating to soft, clingy, and absolutely adorable, Bai Jiusi’s new personality had everyone swooning. He gifted her a delicate hairpin, lit her way with a lantern, napped on her lap like a puppy, and gave her the kind of attention that made even the most cynical fans go, “Aww.”

Feud C-Drama: Bai Lu and Joseph Zeng’s Behind-the-Scenes Stories Melt Fans’ Hearts

At first, Hua Ru Yue suspected it was all an act—a clever ploy to get her back. But his sincere, sticky-sweet affection gradually broke her walls down. Their playful banter and soft intimacy became the talk of Weibo. Comments like “Too much cuteness, I need insulin!” and “Protect this new Bai Jiusi at all costs” started flooding in.

Though Feud wrapped its final episode on 24 June, the emotional rollercoaster and gorgeous visuals are still fresh in fans’ minds. From gut-wrenching grief to warm cuddles and cheeky kisses, Bai Lu and Joseph Zeng poured everything into their roles—and it paid off tenfold.

No capes, no flying swords—just pure, painful, beautiful human connection. That’s what made Feud unforgettable.
