From Hero to Headache? Du Meizhu Caught in 200K RMB Fraud Allegations She Firmly Denies (Weibo)

Remember Du Meizhu? The name that rocked the entire Chinese entertainment industry back in 2021 when she exposed top star Kris Wu and played a key role in sending him to jail? Well, four years on, she’s back in the headlines—but this time, she’s not the whistleblower. She’s the one being accused.

🎭 The Plot Twist No One Saw Coming

Du Meizhu became a household name at 19, when her detailed accusations against Kris Wu led to his arrest and eventual conviction. At the time, she was hailed by many as a brave young woman standing up to one of the biggest names in C-ent.

But 2025’s Du Meizhu story reads very differently.

Du Meizhu Responds to Fraud Accusations: “It Was a Gift, Not a Scam”

A woman who goes by the name "Bingjie" online has come forward claiming that she gave Du Meizhu nearly 200,000 RMB (about $28,000 USD) between 2022 and 2023. The money, she says, was intended to help Du with legal fees and illness, only for her to later feel “used” after allegedly spotting Du spending big on a more glamorous lifestyle.

Bingjie didn’t just take this to the net—she says she filed a civil case back in 2024. Du reportedly won that round. But this June, Bingjie returned with new energy and even brought her 80-year-old father to lodge a police report, claiming Du Meizhu blocked her on WeChat and is actively dodging her.

📣 Du Claps Back: “It Was a Gift, Not a Loan!”

As the saga began climbing hot search charts, Du Meizhu broke her silence with a bold statement:

“I won’t admit to something I didn’t do. It was a gift, not a scam.”

Du accused Bingjie of turning bitter only after her own financial situation declined, saying:

“Back when she had money, she was gifting streamers left and right. Now that she’s broke, she wants it all back?”

She also shared chat screenshots, showing what she says is evidence that repayment was never expected—and even claimed that she herself transferred money to help Bingjie during hard times.

As for the lawsuit threats? Du says if the slander continues, she’s ready to fight it out legally.

📱 Social Media Split:

Online reactions are mixed.

  • Some netizens say Du Meizhu may have abused her post-scandal sympathy to quietly fund her lifestyle.

  • Others argue that if money was voluntarily given, it’s unfair to call it a scam after the fact.

  • A few fans point out that both parties seemed emotionally invested—suggesting the situation may be more about personal falling-out than clear-cut fraud.

🔙 A Quick Throwback:

Let’s not forget the gravity of Du Meizhu’s original claim back in 2021, when she posted detailed accusations of predatory behaviour involving Kris Wu, alleged underage victims, and behind-the-scenes manipulation disguised as casting calls.

Chinese Influencer Du Meizhu Faces Police Report Over Alleged 200K RMB Scam

Her boldness led to a swift downfall for the former A-lister—Wu was detained within 48 hours of her public plea and eventually convicted.

For a while, Du was treated like a symbol of justice. Now, the tables have turned.

Whether you see Du Meizhu as a misunderstood survivor or someone who crossed the line post-spotlight, one thing’s clear—this story isn’t over. With civil lawsuits, police reports, and mutual mud-slinging in play, the court of public opinion is as divided as ever.

And with both sides threatening legal action again, it seems like the next chapter might just be decided in a courtroom—again.
