Chinese entertainment goddess Dilraba Dilmurat (迪麗熱巴) aka Dilireba is back and absolutely slaying with what many reckon is her most jaw-dropping historical styling yet in the upcoming drama Love Beyond the Grave (慕胥辭). Honestly, calling her “ethereal” is almost an understatement — she looks like she’s stepped straight out of a haunted fairytale in the best way possible.

After a bit of a rocky run with The Legend of Anle (安樂傳) opposite Gong Jun, which didn’t exactly set ratings on fire, Reba had taken a breather from new period pieces. But she’s clearly not messing about this time. 

Hot off two modern dramas, Sword Rose (利劍玫瑰) and Love On the Turquoise Land (梟起青壤), both apparently queuing for release this summer, Dilraba’s new Love Beyond the Grave trailer has properly blown the roof off social media.

The fantasy romance teaser racked up a wild 13 million views within days, leaving fans in awe of its lavish visuals, mind-bending world-building, and especially Dilraba’s mesmerising looks. 

Her wardrobe alone is giving next-level “regal ghost queen” energy, with flowing robes, intricate hair ornaments, and a hauntingly delicate vibe. And get this — she’s using her own voice acting, layering a soft, ghostly tone that’s got fans praising her performance as one of her best yet.

Set against a gorgeously crafted underworld realm — brought to life with genuinely cinematic-quality VFX — the series adapts Carrying a Lantern in Daylight (白日提燈) by Li Qingran. 

Dilireba plays He Simu, a 400-year-old Ghost Queen who still looks like a fresh-faced maiden, fated to cross paths with a young general, Duan Xu (played by Arthur Chen Feiyu). The pair are connected by sharing all five senses, which is about as romantically chaotic as it sounds, and start unpicking each other’s deepest secrets and traumas.

Through the tragic connection of a mortal man whose life burns out in under a century, and a demoness whose four centuries of existence have left her lonely, the two spark a bittersweet love story that defies time itself. Dilraba’s character delivers a trailer-ending line that’s already made fans weepy:

“You are my only curse-bearer. I wish for all your dreams to come true… but I am the one wish you cannot fulfil.”

Yeah, we’re not OK either.

With the hype, visuals, and Dilraba’s otherworldly styling firing on all cylinders, Love Beyond the Grave is shaping up to be the must-watch historical fantasy of the year.
