AKB48’s Suzuki Kurumi to Drop First Photobook This August – Cute, Classy, and Totally Kururun (

After nearly a decade in the game, AKB48’s very own Kururun – Suzuki Kurumi – is finally stepping into the solo spotlight. Set for release on 22 August 2025, her very first photobook (title still under wraps!) promises a vibrant mix of youthful charm and mature glow, shot against the dreamy backdrops of sunny Okinawa.

At just 20 years old, Kurumi is embracing her milestone year with a splash – literally. The photobook showcases her playful side splashing about in the sea and pool, as well as a more elegant vibe under the evening lights of Chatan town. From white swimsuits by crystal-clear shores to graceful walks in flowing dresses, it’s a full-on visual journey through the many shades of Kururun.

Beauty, after all, is one of those things that depends on who you ask. As an AKB48 idol, Suzuki Kurumi naturally fits the mould of Japan’s idol aesthetic – fresh-faced, expressive, with that balance of cuteness and calm poise. For some fans, this photobook will be an absolute treat.

For others from different backgrounds or cultural ideals, maybe she’s not their cup of tea – and that’s perfectly alright. What is certain, though, is that this book is a love letter to the fans who’ve supported her since her kenkyuusei (trainee) days back in AKB’s 16th anniversary lineup in December 2016.

“There’s a lot of the real me in here – from the silly fun Kururun to a slightly more mature version of myself,” Kurumi shared. “I hope people feel excited flipping through the pages, just like I did during the shoot. It’s my way of saying thanks to everyone who’s supported me.”

While AKB48’s image often leans heavily on “kawaii” and wholesomeness, Kurumi isn’t shying away from showing something a bit bolder.

The photobook also teases some daring cuts and lingerie shots – a first for her – plus a side of grown-up Kururun fans might not have seen before.

It’s still early days, so reactions from netizens and fans abroad remain fairly quiet. But with preview events lined up – including a pre-release fan meet in Tokyo on 4 July and an online stream on MUVUS on 9 July, buzz is expected to pick up quick.
