Zhang Linghe, the Gentleman of C-Drama, Returns With Wang Churan in a New Love Story Set to Break Hearts (Weibo)

Looks like the C-Drama world is about to be wrecked (in the best way possible) again—because Zhang Linghe and Wang Churan are teaming up for a new romance drama, Zhe Yi Miao aka "This Second", and the buzz? Already off the charts.

Fans are calling them the next iconic pair, and honestly, we get it.

Zhang Linghe has been on a major roll ever since “The Best Thing” and “Till The End of the Moon”, winning hearts left and right with his dreamy visuals and even dreamier acting chops.

This time, he’s set to star alongside the stunning Wang Churan, known for her role in “Joy of Life”, and the chemistry between them?

It’s basically jumping out of the screen even though the drama hasn’t aired yet.

But what really sent the internet into meltdown recently wasn’t even the drama – it was Zhang Linghe’s real-life empathy on full display during a variety show.

While filming Start Reasoning Season 3, there was a segment where everyone had to jump into a pool.

Before diving in, Zhang Linghe gently asked, “No one’s feeling unwell, right?”

Simple, right?

But that one considerate question gave comedian Jin Jing the chance to say she was on her period.

The result? The crew quickly adjusted the game: warm water instead of cold, and new roles that let her sit the segment out without issue.

The clip went super viral in China, racking up over 66 million views—with netizens praising Zhang’s empathy and labelling him a true gentleman.

One trending quote summed it up: “Behind that handsome face is a heart softer than cotton.”

And this isn’t just a one-off moment. Zhang Linghe has a bit of a reputation for being thoughtful.

Back on “Hello, Saturday”, he checked if Jin Jing was okay being lifted up—because she was wearing a skirt.

During promotions for “I Love You”, he asked his co-star Xu Ruohan if she was comfortable before lifting her.

Even when taking photos with a child actress from Zhu Yu, he discreetly fixed her skirt before the shutter clicked.

Honestly? That level of awareness is rare. And refreshing.

So now, pair that kind of person with Wang Churan in a swoon-worthy drama and you’ve basically got a recipe for emotional devastation (the good kind).

“This Second” is set in 1930s Shanghai, and it’s not your usual fluffy love story.

Think: emotional wounds, tragic pasts, rich family politics, and that slow-burn, yearning kind of romance.

The story follows a pharmaceutical heiress and a fallen aristocrat whose lives tangle in mystery, pain, and ultimately—love.

The drama’s adapted from a well-loved novel, and everything from the production design to the vibes screams cinematic gold

As part of its promo blitz, Zhang Linge and Wang Churan dropped a couple-themed Polaroid shoot where they served elegant retro looks.

Zhang Linghe rocked a black leather jacket and crisp white shirt, while Wang stunned in smart-casual white. Even though the shoot was done separately, fans were already shipping them hard.

“The chemistry’s already there even before the show airs.,” one comment read—and yep, we felt that.

While we all wait (impatiently) for This Second to hit our screens, one thing’s already clear: Zhang Linghe isn’t just playing romantic leads.

He is the romantic lead we’ve been looking for—in fiction and reality.

Forget fictional heartbreaks—Zhang Linghe just proved that the most powerful love stories are written in real life, one thoughtful gesture at a time.
