| The Mystic Nine 2 Brings Back William Chan, But It’s a Whole New Tomb to Rob |
It’s been nearly ten years since The Mystic Nine took us on that wild ride through warlords, tombs and ancient clan secrets. And now, after years of whispers and what-ifs, it’s official – The Mystic Nine 2 is happening! Yes, tomb robbing season is back, and this time we’re digging even deeper into the lore that fans have obsessed over for years.
Leading the charge once more is none other than William Chan, who reprises his iconic role as Zhang Qishan – aka the rail bureau boss with more secrets than a sealed tomb.
Sharp suit, sharper blade, and plenty of unfinished business to settle. But while he’s back in action, two of his OG co-stars won’t be returning: Lay Zhang Yixing and Zhao Liying are giving this sequel a miss. And honestly? We’re a bit gutted, but the fresh cast might just make up for it.
This time round, the spotlight’s shifting to none other than Wu Laogou – the legendary ancestor of Wu Xie whose tomb-raiding notebook basically kickstarted the whole Grave Robbers’ Chronicles saga.

And what’s Wu Laogou without Huo Xiangu? Chen Yao has been cast as the only female Mystic Nine member who ever teamed up with Wu Laogou – and fun fact: she’s the gran of Huo Xiuxiu.
Wu Xie himself once hinted that his granddad and Huo Xiangu had “a past”, and now we’re finally about to see just how spicy that past was. Romance? Rivalry? Bit of both? We’re buzzing to find out.
The production is moving fast too – filming’s set to kick off on May 28, and the full cast has already been spotted at a table read, joined by none other than Nan Pai San Shu himself. Yep, the original author is penning the script for this one, so fans can breathe easy – we’re in proper hands.
From early chatter, it sounds like this sequel’s aiming for more than just nostalgia. With a tighter focus on character backstories, powerful clan dynamics, and prequel-style revelations, Mystic Nine 2 might not just live up to its predecessor… it might outdo it.
