| 13 Years Later, SDN48 Returns to the Spotlight — Saturday Nights Just Got Spicier Again! |
Well, who said Saturday nights were dead? The legendary grown-up queens of the 48 Group universe — SDN48 — have officially made a dazzling return to the stage after over a decade, and fans are still buzzing from the nostalgia hit.
Formed in 2009 as AKB48’s cheekier, more mature sister group, SDN48 (short for “Saturday Night 48”) flipped the idol script with their sultry performances, glam aesthetics and age requirement (yep, members had to be 20 or older). While AKB48 was all about youthful energy and dreams of tomorrow, SDN48 brought a dash of sophistication, sass and late-night allure. And true to their name, they only performed on Saturday nights.

Sharing the same Akihabara theatre as their younger sisters, SDN48 carved out their own loyal fanbase with hits like “Yuuwaku no Garter” and “MIN.MIN.MIN”. Their vibe? A cocktail of charisma, confidence, and a touch of daring — like a Saturday cabaret wrapped in idol sparkle.
But just as quickly as they’d turned heads, SDN48’s run came to an emotional end in 2012 with their farewell show “SDN48 Graduation Concert NEXT ENCORE” on 31 March. After that, the members went their separate ways — some into showbiz, others into quieter lives — but they never stopped catching up now and again for lowkey reunions.
Then boom — fast forward to 2025, and fans were treated to the ultimate surprise.

At this year’s “Seri Fes” held on 17 May, Serina (1st gen OG and certified fan fave) not only took the mic as MC but also dropped the bomb: SDN48 was back on stage, for real. It was their first official performance together since disbanding 13 years ago — and let’s just say the reaction was pure chaos (in the best way possible).
