No Sakaguchi Kentaro in Kuala Lumpur: Malaysian Stop of Asia Fan Meeting Tour Called Off |
It’s official—Sakaguchi Kentaro won’t be making it to Kuala Lumpur this June, as his much-awaited fan meeting at JioSpace has just been called off.
Fans had been buzzing with excitement ever since Japanese heartthrob Sakaguchi Kentaro (坂口健太郎) announced his first-ever Asia fan meeting tour back in April. Known for his charming roles in My Love Story! and The 100th Love with You, Kentaro’s KL stop was meant to be one of the key highlights—especially for his Malaysian fanbase who rarely get the chance to meet J-actors up close.
But that hype quickly turned to heartbreak late Wednesday night (28 May), when organiser Mahocast released a statement confirming the cancellation of the Kuala Lumpur leg of the tour. The reason? “Unforeseen circumstances”—and unfortunately, they’re not elaborating.

“This decision was not made lightly, and we understand the disappointment it may cause. We deeply appreciate your understanding and continued support during this time,” said Mahocast in their official statement.
The good news: ticket holders will be getting full refunds, and the organiser has promised to reach out with more details soon. Still, many fans who shelled out anywhere from RM288 to a whopping RM988 are understandably feeling the sting—some had already sorted travel plans, outfits, and all.

Over on social media, reactions ranged from disappointment to straight-up frustration. Some fans voiced concerns that had already been circulating when ticket prices were first announced: was it really feasible to charge nearly RM1,000 for an event at JioSpace?
A few even said they’d held off buying because of the price point, while others who had purchased tickets now feel a bit burnt.
“You can’t just slap premium pricing and hope it sells—especially for a first-time tour,” one fan commented on Twitter.

It doesn’t help that this marks the second time a major international event at JioSpace has been scrapped this year. Back in February, K-pop girl group Billlie were set to perform at the same venue, but their show also got the axe—rumoured to be due to weak ticket sales and lacklustre promotion.
As for Kentaro himself, he hasn’t spoken up about the KL cancellation just yet, and there’s been no mention of a potential reschedule. But fingers crossed this won’t be the end of the road for his Southeast Asian tour dreams.
One thing’s for sure: the demand is definitely there. Hopefully next time around, there’s more balance between hype, planning, and affordability.
