From humble beginnings to a ratings powerhouse, Resident Playbook wrapped up its run with a finale that pulled in an impressive 10% viewership rating, more than doubling its debut episode’s 3.6%. Not bad for a spin-off, right?
As the latest addition to the Hospital Playlist universe, Resident Playbook had big shoes to fill—and it did just that. Starring Go Youn-jung, Shin Si-a, Kang You-seok, Han Ye-ji, and Jung Joon-won as a group of passionate (and often overwhelmed) resident doctors, the show steadily built a loyal fanbase who tuned in not just for the medical drama, but for the heart and humour behind each character’s journey.
Viewers especially loved the subtle connections to the Hospital Playlist world, including nostalgic cameos from original cast members at Yulje Hospital’s Jongno branch. For fans of the franchise, it felt like coming home.

With ratings peaking and fans hyped, it’s no surprise that talks of Season 2 have taken over online comment sections. One viewer put it best: “Looking forward to the second season! Each episode just gets better than the previous one. And the cameos of the original cast bring back memories.”
But the big question is—will the residents return?
When asked about a possible second season, lead actress Go Youn-jung, who plays OB-GYN resident Oh Yi-young, had mixed feelings. “Half of me wants to do it, half of me feels worried,” she shared honestly. While she’s grateful for the love the character has received, she’s not sure if Yi-young should still be the focus.
“If there’s a second season and Yi-young is still the main character… does that mean she hasn’t grown?” she joked. “By then, we should be more experienced. There’ll be new first-year residents whose stories could be more exciting.”

Instead, she floated the idea of appearing as a guest star, perhaps to show that Yi-young’s thriving—an epilogue-style update. “I’d be happy to pop in a few times. That might be more meaningful.”

With Resident Playbook carving out its own identity while staying true to the Hospital Playlist spirit, it’s clear the Yulje Medical universe still has plenty of stories left to tell. Whether or not we get a full-blown sequel, the finale has left a lasting impression—and fans aren’t ready to say goodbye just yet.
