Isomura Hayato Lands His First Lead Role in Fuji TV Drama “Bokuhoshi”

Fuji TV’s “Bokuhoshi” Puts a Lawyer at the Heart of High School Drama — Premieres July 2025
Hotta Mayu and Inagaki Goro Join Isomura Hayato in Fuji TV’s July Drama “Bokuhoshi”

Mark your calendars ‘cause Monday nights are about to hit different this summer. Fuji TV just dropped the news that Isomura Hayato is taking the lead in their upcoming July drama “Bokutachi wa mada Sono Hoshi no Kosoku o Shiranai” (or just call it Bokuhoshi, it’s catchier). Joining him are Hotta Mayu and Inagaki Goro, and yep — we’re getting school drama vibes, but with a grown-up twist.

The Lowdown:

Isomura plays Kenji Shiratori, a low-key, socially awkward lawyer with a hypersensitive personality and a love for stars and nature. Dude’s been through it — had a tough time in school, didn’t fit in, and now?

He’s been sent (read: dragged) back to campus life as a “school lawyer” at Hama Solaris High. It’s a private high school going through a rocky transition into coeducation, thanks to the whole declining birth rate situation in Japan.

But this ain’t your usual school drama. Kenji’s not here to lay down the law with a gavel. He’s navigating all the messy, grey-area problems teens face today — ones that don’t get solved with a courtroom speech or a detention slip. Think bullying, absenteeism, clashing values, and everything in between. It’s emotional, it’s raw, and sometimes, even the law can’t fix it.

Meet the Cast:

Isomura Hayato (Kenji Shiratori) – This is his first ever lead in a commercial network drama. After killing it in award-winning films and buzzworthy dramas like Futekisetsu ni mo Hodo ga Aru! and Kujaku no Dance, he’s finally front and centre. His character? A misfit with a soft core and some unresolved school trauma.

Hotta Mayu (Suzu Koda) – She’s the modern literature teacher and former all-boys school staffer who ends up being Kenji’s unexpected partner-in-chaos. She’s bright, sincere, a bit of a people-pleaser — and slowly finds herself drawn to Kenji’s quirky vibes.

Inagaki Goro (Misao Ozaki) – Yep, that Inagaki. Back in a commercial network drama for the first time in 9 years, he plays the calculating but complex school director. He’s the mastermind behind the co-ed merger and has his own inner conflicts about what education should really mean.

Behind the Scenes:

  • Script’s by Mika Omori (of Asa ga Kita and Seiten o Tsuke fame), so expect layered characters and heavy feels.

  • Directed by Kento Yamaguchi (yup, the guy behind Avalanche and Netflix’s upcoming Ikusagami).

  • Produced by the duo behind the 2024 Best Drama Award winner Haru ni Nattara. Basically, it’s a powerhouse team.

Why We’re Hyped:

Isomura’s Kenji isn’t your typical drama hero. He’s fragile but sharp, quiet but observant, and watching him try to help these teens while battling his own demons? That’s gonna hit. Plus, the show’s got this poetic layer — stars, colours, unspoken pain — and a cast that’s bound to bring the drama and the heart.

Also? The title literally means “We Still Don’t Know the School Rules of That Star”. If that’s not metaphor heaven, we don’t know what is.

Bokuhoshi premieres Monday nights at 10 PM, starting July 2025 on Fuji TV/KTV.
