DOLLA’s “MWA!” Goes Off in Brazil – Fans Raving Over Funky Comeback (X/Instagram DOLLA) |
DOLLA’s back – and they’ve come out swingin’!
The Malaysian girl group dropped their long-awaited comeback track, “MWA!”, on 9th May 2025 (a Friday banger, obviously), and it’s already causing a ruckus.
Not just in Malaysia, but halfway across the globe... in Brazil.
Yep!
This is DOLLA’s first major drop since Syasya waved goodbye to the group in 2024, and the trio’s clearly not here to mess about.
“MWA!” was a full-on team effort, written and composed by the girls themselves alongside Chelsea Warner, Gaston Pong, and Roland Lim Shi Jie – with a cheeky rap boost from Yonnyboii.
And let’s just say, the beat slaps.

So far, the song’s smashed past 100k streams on Spotify and racked up 400k+ views on YouTube – but the real surprise?
It’s blowing up in Brazil, thanks to a couple of key tweets that sent fans spiralling (in the best way).
First up, the K-pop and Asian music portal Nunca Pause o MV tweeted about “MWA!” and pointed out its catchy funk beat, saying, “Funk is taking over! Malaysian girl group DOLLA releases their single ‘MWA!’, featuring funk beats.”
Then came the viral push – a tweet from Brazilian celeb news account @poponze, who’ve got over 124k followers.
They hyped the song’s Brazilian funk flavour, tweeting: “It’s funk! Malaysian girl group DOLLA bets on the rhythm of Brazilian funk in their new single ‘MWA!’.”
That post? It’s already sitting pretty with 600,000+ views since it dropped on 15th May.

Turns out, they weren’t just being nice – “MWA!” actually samples Brazilian artist MC Neguinho Do ITR’s track “Catuca Catucadão”, which you can hear loud and proud in the intro and chorus.
That funky rhythm? Totally intentional, and Brazilian netizens are loving it.
Fans in Brazil are flooding the comments with love for the girls – praising their style, the bold sound, and that shout-out to their culture.
The fusion of Malaysian pop and Brazilian funk is clearly hitting the right notes.

Back home, Malaysian iDOLLAs are buzzing too.
Seeing their girls get international hype – and in such an unexpected place – has fans hoping this could be DOLLA’s breakout moment on the global stage.
Will this lead to a full-on Brazil x Malaysia pop collab in the future?
Who knows, but for now – DOLLA’s “MWA!” is officially the moment. And we’re here for it.
