Li Hong Yi & Sun Zhenni Dive into Forbidden Love in Fantasy C-Drama "Blossom in Darkness" (Youku) |
Li Hong Yi and Sun Zhenni are about to take us on another mystical rollercoaster of love, demons, and spiritual mayhem in the upcoming xianxia fantasy drama Blossom in Darkness (十万狂花入梦来) – and from the looks of it, it’s absolutely soaked in blood-red hues, falling petals, and that good old soul-binding romance.
The drama’s still waiting on an official premiere date from Youku, but it’s already stirring chatter for its intense visuals and familiar casting vibes. Li Hong Yi steps into the role of Qi Feng Yin – a big baddie demon born from evil thoughts, imprisoned for a millennium in Panic Mountain Barrier after going on a deadly spree against mortals and immortals alike. Talk about an ancient grudge.

Enter Sun Zhenni, who plays Ya Mao – a delicate yet powerful little spirit born from a mystical herb called Huanyangcao. She’s being hunted left, right and centre for her rare magical physique, and in classic xianxia fashion, stumbles into Qi Feng Yin’s prison and accidentally messes with his comeback attempt. Cue the evil thoughts escaping and a slow-burn, spiritual-tension-heavy bond forming between the two.
Now here’s the thing – as much as we love Sun Zhenni and her ability to float gracefully in every celestial scene, she’s definitely developing a xianxia typecast situation.

From The Blossoming Love with Zhang Bin Bin to her demon-flavoured role in Till the End of the Moon, and now Blossom in Darkness, she’s pretty much carved out a niche as the go-to spiritual girl with mysterious powers. We’re not mad, but maybe she deserves a modern slice-of-life role or even a campus drama break?
Visually, the drama isn’t shy with its aesthetic – crimson everywhere, swirling petals, and intense stares. It might be a bit much for those who prefer subtlety, but at least it’s committing fully to the moodboard.

Directed by Zhong Qing and adapted from a popular web novel, Blossom in Darkness promises 30 episodes of wuxia romance, demon chaos, and emotional entanglements. Fans of the genre might find comfort in its classic xianxia beats, while others might hope this is the last red-drenched love story they’ll watch for a while.
So whether you're here for Li Hong Yi’s brooding anti-hero vibes, or just watching to see how many spiritual flowers can bloom in one drama, Blossom in Darkness looks set to be another wild ride through fantasy China’s favourite romantic battlefield.
