Song Zu Er Tipped to Star in Long-Awaited Period C-Drama ‘Biao Mei Wan Fu’ (English title TBA) |
Looks like Song Zu Er’s big return to dramaland is shaping up to be more than just a one-hit (or two-hit) wonder. Fresh off the back of her strong comeback in The Demon Hunter’s Romance and the currently airing The Prisoner of Beauty — which, by the way, is still smashing ratings left and right — word on the street is that she's been offered the lead role in a long-gestating period drama called Biao Mei Wan Fu (表妹万福).
Now, this project’s been floating around casting circles for a good year or so. Earlier this year, it was all set to roll with leads reportedly locked in, and then... crickets. Total radio silence. But now it seems Biao Mei Wan Fu is back in the spotlight, and the production team might just be ready to fire up the cameras again — this time with Song Zu Er as their leading lady.

If she signs on, Biao Mei Wan Fu would mark her first new drama post-comeback, and honestly? That’s a move that could set the tone for her full-blown re-entry into top-tier C-ent. It’s a Tencent production, based on a novel of the same name, and sounds like it’ll be leaning into that classic costume drama charm — love, politics, palace intrigue, all that jazz.
As for the male lead, the name currently floating is Chen Xin Hai, but don’t be surprised if Zhou Yi Ran or Xin Yun Lai swoop in instead. No final word yet, just a lot of industry murmurs and a bit of cautious hype.
To be clear, no one’s frantically bending over backwards to cast Song Zu Er, but they’re not dodging her either. If this pans out and goes smoothly, it might just open the floodgates — expect her inbox to start overflowing with script offers faster than you can say “comeback queen”.
Stay tuned — The Prisoner of Beauty is still airing, still making noise, and if this new gig lands, it’s only the beginning of Song Zu Er’s second act.
