Hong Kong singer Ronald Cheng has found himself in the spotlight once again, after being spotted at the Family Court on the 15th. His surprise appearance has fuelled growing rumours that his marriage with wife Sammie Yu may be on the rocks.
Cheng, who previously made headlines in August last year by publicly severing ties with his long-time manager Helen Ho, had announced then that he would be taking a step back from his career.
He cited issues with Ho's “professionalism and moral conduct” and said he would halt touring plans to enter alcohol rehabilitation in the US—with Sammie’s support.
However, fans recently noticed cracks in the couple’s relationship.
On Sammie’s birthday, she shared a cryptic post saying, “Happy birthday to me, a new chapter begins.”
Her message raised eyebrows and set off speculation about a possible separation.
Now, the rumour mill is turning even faster.
Local media captured Ronald entering the Family Court alone, where journalists confronted him with questions about whether he was there to deal with divorce proceedings.
Clearly caught off guard, Cheng responded, “This is a closed-door hearing, how did you know?”
He did not provide any clear answers about whether child custody was on the table, only expressing his frustration: “How can details from a closed court be leaked? That’s impressive.”

The encounter quickly spread across online platforms, with netizens digging up old clips and interviews to connect the dots.
One video in particular has stirred discussion—Cheng had been asked about his favourite colleague during a company Q&A segment.
While he initially gave a vague answer about appreciating helpful staff, he eventually named his secretary, Judy, following some teasing from the crew.
This seemingly innocent moment has now been reinterpreted by online sleuths as a possible hint towards infidelity.
Though there is no solid proof of an affair, the timing has raised suspicions among fans and tabloids alike.
Sammie Yu has so far stayed silent on the issue. Neither she nor Ronald have released any official statement clarifying the status of their relationship.
Their marriage, which had once been celebrated for its unity—especially during Ronald’s decision to seek rehab—now faces public scrutiny. Many are wondering if their bond, previously thought unshakable, has truly come to an end.
This wouldn't be Cheng’s first highly publicised relationship turmoil.
Before marrying Sammie, he was famously linked to fellow singer Charlene Choi, with whom he had a brief and very public marriage that ended in divorce.
Fans are split—some express sympathy, while others feel disappointed, especially with the suggestion of infidelity.
Online forums are abuzz with opinions, and many await a statement from either party to clear the air.
For now, Ronald’s appearance at the Family Court has added weight to the speculation. Whether this signals the end of his marriage or a misunderstanding remains to be seen.
