Chinese actress Bai Lu, best known for her iconic roles in Till the End of the Moon and Only for Love, has officially wrapped filming for what might be her last historical drama for quite some time—The Legend of Tang Dynasty.
The production wrapped up on 9 April 2025 with a massive celebration attended by over 2,000 fans. Bai Lu, dressed in her favourite period costume, took to the stage with style—playing G.E.M’s emotional track “Long Distance” (多遠都要在一起) on a luxury Louis Vuitton Bluetooth speaker worth around $9,700 (or 70,000 yuan).
Her choice of song, her outfit, and even the fancy speaker weren’t just for show—it was a heartfelt nod to the fans who’ve stood by her throughout her journey in costume dramas.
While promoting her modern drama Northward, Bai Lu quietly dropped a bombshell: she’s planning to step away from historical dramas for the foreseeable future.
This sentiment was echoed again during the fan meeting held after The Legend of Tang Dynasty filming wrapped.
“In recent years, I’ve played so many action-packed roles in period dramas, and it’s really done a number on my back,” she said, according to Upmedia.
That comment sparked concern among fans, but she was quick to ease their worries. “I’m okay! Filming’s finished, and honestly, the fight scenes in this one are gonna blow your mind!”
She went on to say that Li Peiyi, her role in The Legend of Tang Dynasty, will likely be her last of that kind. Instead, she wants to explore more grounded and realistic characters in modern-day settings.
Despite the bittersweet news, fans came through in full force. They crowdfunded the entire fan meeting stage, turned up with massive banners, and showed up in their thousands.
Bai Lu returned the love with 1,000 carefully prepared meal boxes—but it still wasn’t enough for the 2,000-strong crowd.
To make sure everyone could see her clearly, Bai Lu made a point of walking across the entire stage several times. Netizens were full of praise, calling it “the definition of true fan service.”
What’s next for her? She confirmed that Immortal by the River is set to air in the next two to three months. And come late May, she’ll begin filming Mo Li alongside Cheng Lei, known for Story of Kunning Palace.
After Mo Li, though, she’s hitting pause. Her manager, Yu Zheng, revealed that Bai Lu will be taking a six-month break to rest and regroup.
But don’t worry—2026 already looks promising. She’s planning a fresh collaboration with Daylight Entertainment on a mystery-themed drama. Even more exciting? She’s also preparing for her first project as a director.
Between her stellar acting, sincere fan interactions, and plans to step behind the camera, Bai Lu is clearly evolving—but staying as beloved as ever.
