Japanese Actor Okada Masaki Joins K-Drama Series on Disney+

Japanese heartthrob Okada Masaki is officially making his Korean drama debut in the much-anticipated second season of Disney+’s action thriller, A Shop for Killers

And no, you’re not dreaming—this is real.

Season 1 of A Shop for Killers introduced viewers to Jo Ji-an (played by Kim Hye Jun), a university student who unexpectedly inherits a rather... unconventional shop from her late uncle Jin-man (Lee Dong Wook).

The twist?

It’s a secret weapons store for contract killers. Naturally, chaos ensues.

The drama quickly gained attention for its tightly paced action scenes, stylish visuals, and gripping storylines, blending sharp thriller vibes with human drama.

Now, with Season 2 officially underway, the returning cast is getting some major reinforcements—including none other than Okada Masaki.

He’ll be playing “J,” the joint team leader of the Babylon East Asia branch’s elite mercenary unit. Oh, and he’s also the younger brother of “Q,” another key figure in the series.

This marks Okada’s very first role in a Korean production, and fans from both Japan and Korea are already buzzing about the crossover.

In a comment shared with press, Masaki Okada said:

“Honestly, I was shocked. I never imagined I’d be offered something like this. The script is brilliantly written, and even though the language is different, I felt there was something deeper we could connect on. I decided to take the leap.”

He also touched on the emotional depth of the series, noting that while it features slick action sequences, each character is layered and thoughtfully portrayed.

Though Okada admits he’s not particularly experienced in action roles, he’s been training in Korea and working closely with the stunt team to prepare.

“The characters’ stories are drawn with such care, and it’s not just about the fighting—it’s about what drives each person to survive,” he said. “I hope viewers will look forward to it. I’m giving it everything I’ve got.”

Alongside Okada, actress Hyunri will also be joining the cast from Japan. Director Lee Kwon and writers Ji Ho Jin and Lee Kwon (yes, double duty) are returning from Season 1 to helm the new episodes.

With Lee Dong Wook reprising his role as the enigmatic Jin-man and Kim Hye Jun back as the resilient Ji-an, Season 2 is shaping up to be a high-stakes continuation with a fresh international twist.

A Shop for Killers is streaming exclusively on Disney+ Star in selected territories.

Stay tuned—this season might just raise the bar for East Asian drama collaborations.
