Here’s one for the J-pop and anime lovers—Kento Nakajima has officially landed the opening theme gig for the anime version of The Dinner Table Detective

His track MONTAGE, a full-blown musical thriller, made its surprise debut in the first episode aired on 4 April 2025.

Composed by the legendary Hiroyuki Sawano, MONTAGE is every bit as high-energy and slick as you'd expect. Nakajima himself co-wrote the lyrics alongside cAnON, pouring in his admiration for the show's cheeky but clever lead character, Kageyama.

“I’m a huge fan of the live-action drama,” Nakajima said. “So getting to contribute to the anime with music really hit home for me. I watched all the episodes, and while writing the lyrics, I tried to stay true to Kageyama—his sarcastic way of solving cases and those iconic sharp remarks.”

The title MONTAGE wasn’t just a random pick either. It came from Nakajima’s idea of piecing together fragments—photos, clues, half-told stories—just like how Kageyama cracks cases at the dinner table.

He even called the process of working with Sawano a valuable and eye-opening experience.

“It’s my first collab with Sawano-san, and he gave me some amazing feedback. His sound really struck a chord with me, and I felt I could truly connect vocally with this song. I hope people enjoy both the anime and the music—it’s a thrilling match.”

Sawano, on the other hand, was also full of praise for Nakajima’s approach in the studio, saying the artist gave everything he had to bring the song to life, noting his deep respect for the storytelling in both music and visuals.

If the track caught your attention during the anime’s opening, here’s some good news—MONTAGE drops digitally on 11 April, followed by a physical release on 21 May 2025.

Expect multiple editions, each coming with special bonus perks like original photo cards and alternate jacket covers for those who pre-order at Nakajima’s nationwide tour starting 17 April.

And just when you thought the buzz couldn’t get any louder, the new visual teaser for the anime—designed by creator YUAAN—has just been released, adding a stylish new layer to an already thrilling series.

The Dinner Table Detective airs every Friday at 23:30 on Fuji TV’s Noitamina block, and Sundays at 21:00 on AT-X. The mystery, the drama, and now, the soundtrack—this anime’s shaping up to be a real treat.
