When Katy Perry suited up and shot into the stars with Blue Origin on 14 April — alongside Gayle King and Jeff Bezos’ fiancée Lauren Sánchez — she probably didn’t expect to get roasted harder than a marshmallow at a summer bonfire.

The 11-minute space jaunt was billed as a celebration of “female empowerment” and “tech milestones”… but some celebs saw it as tone-deaf, flashy and more about vibes than value.

Let’s break down the backlash that followed Katy’s zero-gravity selfie spree:

  1. Olivia Wilde – Throwing shade from Earth’s orbit

Olivia didn’t name names, but we all saw it.

The Don’t Worry Darling director posted a cryptic Instagram Story with a meme inspired by the Blue Origin flight.

Her caption? “A billion dollars bought some good memes, I guess.”

Oof. Subtle but sharp.

It’s giving “I’m not impressed” energy, and fans took it as a clear jab at Katy's shiny space moment.

  1. Emily Ratajkowski – TikTok truth bomb

Emily went full savage mode on TikTok, not mincing words: “You said this mission was for Mother Earth, but it’s bankrolled by a company literally harming the planet.”

She called out the hypocrisy of launching billionaires into orbit for fun while Earth deals with climate chaos. “Look at the state of the world and tell me this was necessary,” she said.

Yikes. That one stung.

  1. Olivia Munn – Asking the real questions

Olivia Munn hit the morning show circuit and dropped some pragmatic truth.

On The Today Show, she said: “Space exploration used to mean something. Now it feels like a PR stunt. What are they doing up there that helps anyone down here?”

Fair point. She also raised eyebrows about the eye-watering cost, basically asking: “Couldn’t that money have gone to, I dunno, anything else?”

  1. Amy Schumer – Queen of sarcasm

Amy didn’t criticise directly — but her mock “space invite” post on Instagram was hilarious and brutal.

She jokingly announced she’d been asked to join Katy on the trip and pulled out a random Black Panther figurine, pretending it was her emotional support item.

See you guys in space,” she said, deadpan. We’re not sure if Katy laughed, but the internet definitely did.

  1. Wendy’s – The fast-food mic drop

And just when you thought it couldn’t get more random, Wendy’s — yes, the burger chain — chimed in.

After Pop Crave posted about Katy’s return, Wendy’s responded: “Can we send her back?”

No explanation, no chill. Just pure sass. Do they have beef? Literal or figurative? No clue. But the tweet definitely added fuel to the fire.

So… was Katy Perry’s space mission a pop culture power move or a cosmic misfire? That depends who you ask. But if reactions are anything to go by, not everyone’s on board with the idea of celebs rocketing off while the world burns below.

Stay grounded, folks.
