It looks like one online troll has finally come to their senses.

According to Sohu, on April 21st, a certain "Yu Moumou" (name censored for privacy) took to the press to issue a full apology to actress Bai Lu for some rather nasty actions.

Earlier this month, Tianyancha App shows that recently, the court published a statement of apology from "He Moumou" to the plaintiff Bai Mengyan (Bai Lu). And now it's time for a public apology through different platforms, like newspapers, since it's harming Bai Lu's name and image

The culprit admitted to having defamed Bai Lu and, more seriously, maliciously altered her photos – a behaviour that stirred up serious drama in the fan community.

According to an official report from Qichacha, a business info platform, Yu’s apology came in the form of a newspaper ad – a public mea culpa, if you will.

The statement made it clear that Yu now deeply regrets the harsh comments and the Photoshop attack on Bai Lu's image, calling the actions "completely wrong" and offering a "sincere apology" to the actress.

It’s not every day you see someone who’s crossed the line like this publicly own up to it, especially in such a public format.

The whole thing comes after a slew of online hate campaigns that targeted Bai Lu, some of which even took aim at her image in a highly disrespectful manner.

Fans have been divided on the matter, with some suggesting that such apology ads should be the norm when it comes to public shaming.

Yu’s about-turn follows a period of growing backlash as fans rallied to Bai Lu’s defence, and this apology certainly doesn't appear to have been an easy decision.

But whether or not it’ll repair the damage done to Bai Lu’s image in the public eye remains to be seen.

At the end of the day, it’s a reminder that the internet isn’t always a kind place, and sometimes people go too far with their online antics. A good lesson in taking responsibility, though – whether it’s in a tweet, a comment, or a good old-fashioned newspaper ad.
