Bai Lu and Ryan Cheng Lei Reunite in 'Mo Li' Historical Drama

Tencent Video is lining up a seriously juicy costume drama for 2025, and it’s got fans buzzing already. Titled Mo Li (莫离), this upcoming historical series is finally set to kick off filming from 15 May 2025, with a star-studded cast and a killer creative team.

At the heart of the drama are Bai Lu and Ryan Cheng Lei (Ryan Cheng), playing leads in what’s shaping up to be a dramatic rollercoaster of royal politics, heartbreak, and unexpected love.

And yep, if rumours are true, Niu Junfeng might be joining the ride too as the second male lead – exciting stuff if you’re a fan of layered love triangles and subtle angst.

Based on Feng Qing’s novel The Concubine of the Golden Age (盛世嫡妃), Mo Li promises intense drama and slow-burning romance.

The story throws us into an arranged marriage between two so-called "nobodies" – a noblewoman everyone has given up on and a prince who’s been completely discarded by the empire.

He’s ill, disfigured, and seen as useless.

She’s apparently not that pretty or talented. But plot twist – they’re both way more than they seem.

She walks into the palace with a calm smile, ready to live in peace after facing death.

He stands at the altar looking composed but nursing a heart full of vengeance. Together? They're about to shake the entire empire.

The lines are already sending shivers:

“He is my husband; to bully him is to bully me. Those who harm me, I shall eliminate!”

“If she perishes, I shall turn this world into purgatory.”

Writing duties are in the hands of Li Jingling, known for The Blue Whisper, and directing is Lin Yufen, the mastermind behind Eternal Love – so we’re clearly in safe, talented hands.

It’ll have 40 episodes, giving fans plenty of time to fall into the palace politics and emotional layers.

Produced by Xinguang Pictures and set to air on iQIYI, it’s already tipped to be one of the most anticipated dramas of the year.

Expect tags like smart female lead, cold male lead, arranged marriage, masks, politics, military, and of course, romance.

Basically, if you're into historical dramas with bite, this is one to keep on your radar.

Now all that’s left is the countdown till May – and maybe keeping an eye out for casting confirmations. One thing’s for sure though: Mo Li isn’t here to play soft. It’s here to conquer hearts.
