Zhao Lusi’s Mass Unfollow on Weibo Sparks Debate

Zhao Lusi’s Mass Unfollow on Weibo Sparks Debate

Zhao Lusi has set Weibo on fire again, but this time, it's not for a new drama.

On 20 March 2025, the actress shot to the top of the trending list after fans noticed she had unfollowed nearly everyone on social media, including major brands and influencers.

Now, she’s only following a handful of accounts—including the official page for her upcoming drama, Love’s Ambition.

A Career Reset or a Silent Protest?

Before this, Zhao Lusi followed over 200 accounts on Weibo. But with her latest social media purge, fans are wondering what’s going on.

Some see it as a career reset, a fresh start as she gears up for Love’s Ambition alongside William Chan.

Others believe it signals deeper issues, especially given her past conflicts with her agency, Galaxy Cool Entertainment.

This isn’t the first time she’s done this.

Back in January, Zhao also unfollowed several accounts linked to her studio.

That move came after a serious health scare in December, when she was rushed to the emergency room and later underwent intensive treatment.

Rumours have since swirled about mistreatment by her management, with fans calling for agencies to prioritise their artists' well-being.

Support and Criticism from Netizens

Reactions to Zhao’s mass unfollow have been mixed. Many Weibo users sympathise, seeing it as a cry for help.

“She’s clearly setting boundaries. When will agencies stop overworking their artists?” one fan wrote.

However, others see it differently.

Critics argue that unfollowing not just her management but also brands like Versace is excessive and could hurt her professional relationships.

“She needs to separate personal struggles from business. This isn’t how you handle conflicts,” a netizen commented.

Han Anran Joins the Discussion

Adding to the drama, internet celebrity Han Anran revealed that she was also unfollowed.

She had actively promoted Zhao’s previous drama, The Story of Pearl Girl, and seemed hurt by the decision.

Some users backed Han, arguing that Zhao Lusi was reckless in cutting ties with past supporters.

Meanwhile, others accused Han of trying to insert herself into the controversy for attention.

What’s Next for Zhao Lusi?

With Love’s Ambition set to premiere soon, all eyes are on Zhao Lusi.

Whether this unfollow spree is just a social media clean-up or something deeper remains to be seen. But one thing’s for sure—she knows how to keep people talking.
