Mrs. GREEN APPLE's "Dear" Wins First Ever Theme Song Award

Mrs. GREEN APPLE Wins First Ever Theme Song Award

The Japan Academy Film Prize just introduced a brand-new award, and the first-ever winner is none other than Mrs. GREEN APPLE!

Their song Dear, the theme for Dear Family, has bagged the first-ever Best Theme Song award at the 48th Japan Academy Film Prize.

This new award celebrates the most memorable movie theme song of the year, recognising the impact of music in film.

While the Japan Academy Film Prize has always had a music category for film scores, this is the first time theme songs are getting their own spotlight.

Mrs. GREEN APPLE, a three-member band, has been making waves in the J-pop scene, and Dear struck a chord with audiences thanks to its emotional depth and strong connection to the film’s themes.

Written by the band's frontman, Motoki Ohmori, the song captures the energy and emotions of the movie, leaving a lasting impression on viewers.

Ohmori shared his gratitude, saying, “Music and film are deeply connected, and I always create with the mindset that my work should never overshadow the film itself. This award is a huge honour, and I’ll continue to strive for even better music.”

The award ceremony will take place on 14th March 2025 at the Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa, where Mrs. GREEN APPLE will officially receive their honour.

With this new award category, the Japan Academy Film Prize is embracing the diversity of the film industry, recognising the vital role of theme songs in making movies unforgettable.
