McDonald's Japan’s price increase—here’s what’s behind it

McDonald's Japan hikes prices, but there's a silver lining

McDonald's Japan just announced another price bump, with hamburgers going from ¥170 to ¥190 and small fries from ¥190 to ¥200.

Even Happy Meals aren’t spared, now costing ¥510–¥540 instead of ¥490–¥520. The change kicks in from the 12th.

The reason?

Rising costs in energy, logistics, and labour.

McDonald's wants to keep serving up satisfying experiences, but it’s coming at a higher price.

Not everything is getting pricier, though.

The Double Cheeseburger set stays at ¥700, and medium and large fries remain at ¥330 and ¥380. So, some favourites are safe—for now.

To soften the blow, McDonald's is launching a "Tokuniraldo" campaign from the 10th. Expect discounts on medium and large fries and special app coupons offering popular menu items for just ¥100.

And here’s a win: from the 12th, the hamburger set makes a comeback at ¥500, joining the "Set 500" lineup.

McDonald's Japan knows price hikes aren’t fun, but at least they’re throwing in some deals to make up for it.
