Epic Chinese Fantasy 'Creation of the Gods II' Hits Europe

The long-awaited sequel, Creation of the Gods II: Demon Force, finally made its European debut on Thursday at London’s BFI IMAX, the UK’s biggest cinema.

Fans across the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Belgium can now watch it in cinemas starting Friday.

Adapted from the 16th-century novel Fengshen Yanyi, this film continues the legendary Fengshen Trilogy

This time, the action moves to Xiqi, where Ji Fa and Jiang Ziya must rally the people against Shang’s invading army.

Leading the attack is the fierce female warrior Deng Chanyu, but Xiqi gets an unexpected ally—Yin Jiao.

Resurrected as a powerful deity with three heads, six arms, and striking blue skin, he returns to defend the city.

At the London premiere, director Wuershan explained the importance of showcasing China’s rich mythology.

"I want overseas audiences to see how imaginative Chinese culture can be," he said.

Actress Kris Phillip, Yosh Yushi, and other cast members also joined in a video interaction with the audience.

Zhu Yang, a Chinese filmgoer in London, was thrilled by Yin Jiao’s design.

"It brought my own image of Chinese gods to life," she told China Daily

She also praised the use of traditional folk music, which the composer carefully researched in Shaanxi province—historically linked to Xiqi—to keep it authentic.

British audience members were equally impressed. Adam Morley from Hertfordshire praised the mix of CGI, practical effects, and virtual production.

"The design was absolutely stunning. This is a massive film," he said. Hertfordshire is a major UK film hub, home to productions like Harry Potter.

Tervel Valchanov from Bulgaria also admired the film’s unique monster designs, comparing them to Western myths.

"The Green Goblin-like monster using thunderstorms felt so Eastern. It’s a fresh take on fantasy creatures," he noted.

Creation of the Gods II smashed box office records in China, earning over 700 million yuan (around $97 million) in just three days.

Now, with its European release, it’s set to make an even bigger impact. Fans of epic fantasy won’t want to miss this one!
