Well, that backfired spectacularly.
Cui Manli, best known for playing Yu Ying’er in Legend of Zhen Huan, has been detained after spinning a wild but completely fake drunk driving story.
During a livestream, she claimed she had driven without a license, caused a hit-and-run accident in Hengdian, and fled the scene.
Even worse, she laughed about it, saying she wasn’t worried because she thought the camera was broken.
Turns out, none of it was true.
Dongyang City police confirmed that a 36-year-old woman surnamed Cui was detained for fabricating the entire story to gain attention, disturbing public order in the process.
Why she thought confessing to a crime (even a fake one) was a good idea is beyond me.
If she wanted attention, she certainly got it—just not the kind she was hoping for.
Chinese networks quickly removed her scenes from reruns of Legend of Zhen Huan, adding insult to injury.
Realising how badly she messed up, Cui Manli later posted another video, admitting her mistake and begging for forgiveness. Too little, too late? Looks like she’ll have plenty of time to reflect behind bars.
