Bai Lu is back, and this time, she’s leaving idol dramas behind! ‘Northward’ (北上) is set to hit screens on 3 March 2025, premiering on CCTV-1 and iQIYI.
This coming-of-age series follows six childhood friends navigating love, loss, and the changing times as they journey from a quiet canal town to Beijing—and back home again.
A New Side of Bai Lu
Best known for her roles in historical and idol dramas, Bai Lu is stepping into deeper waters as Xia Fenghua, a woman caught between nostalgia and modernity.
Starring alongside her is Ou Hao as Xie Wanghe, with Zhai Zilu, Gao Zhiting, Vanda Margraf, and Liu Hengfu completing the main cast.
Veteran actors Hu Jun, Li Naiwen, and Tong Lei also make special appearances.
A Story of Friendship & Change
The story kicks off in the early 2000s, where Fenghua and her friends enjoy a carefree youth along the canal.
But when new highways threaten their village’s economy, their lives take a sharp turn.
As adulthood pulls them northward, Fenghua becomes a logistics manager, while Wanghe and the boys start a successful takeaway business.
But fate isn’t done with them yet—will they return home or stay in the big city?
Adapted from Xu Zechen’s award-winning novel, ‘Northward’ is a bittersweet dive into the past, packed with nostalgia, love, and the inevitable march of time.
