AKB48’s Okumoto Kairi Chooses Idols Over Education

AKB48 Kenkyuusei Okumoto Kairi just dropped a bold life update!

The 18-year-old announced she’s not heading to uni after finishing high school.

Instead, she’s diving headfirst into her idol journey with AKB48.

Kairi Okumoto, who joined the group in March 2024 as part of the 19th generation, is clearly serious about making her mark.

Despite being a newcomer, she’s already been part of notable tracks like Yumemite Gomen and Kimi to Boku no Polestar on AKB48's B-sides, and contributed to the album LOVE Machine with Ikuze! Kaito Shoujo.

Born in Tokyo on January 27, 2007, Okumoto Kairi is an Aquarius with big dreams and even bigger ambitions.

Standing at 155.5 cm, she’s proving height isn’t needed to reach for the stars.

When asked why she made the choice, Okumoto Kairi kept it simple: AKB48 is her priority. She loves music.

It’s a rare move, but fans are already buzzing about what she’ll bring to the table with her full focus on the group.

As a fresh-faced talent in the J-Pop world, Kairi’s journey is just getting started, but her determination is already turning heads.

Will her bet pay off? Time will tell, but she’s certainly off to a promising start.

For now, let’s keep an eye on this rising star as she commits her all to the idol life!
