Taiwanese actor Lee Wei, famous for idol dramas like My Lucky Star, has officially become a suspect in a shocking murder case tied to a religious sect.
Authorities in Taipei reclassified him from a witness to a suspect after uncovering new evidence.
The case dates back to April 2024, when an accountant, Ms Cai, followed religious writer Wang Yun for spiritual cultivation.
Two months later, she was found dead with severe bruises, and her bank account had been drained.
Investigators believe Wang Yun orchestrated extreme punishments on Cai, leading to her death.
Now, authorities have obtained a secret recording suggesting that Lee Wei, a follower of Wang Yun, may have played a more active role in the crime than initially believed.
He was questioned three times in January as a witness but was summoned again on 24 February, this time as a suspect.
Lee Wei’s wife was also implicated and granted bail at 150,000 NTD (about $5,000), while Lee himself was released on a 300,000 NTD bail (about $10,000).
His last public appearance was in 2020 at the funeral of his mentor, director Yang Guan-Yu.
Since then, he had largely stepped away from the entertainment industry, focusing on Buddhist practices.
But now, his reputation is in tatters as he faces potential legal consequences.
