Fuji TV President, Chairman Resign Over Nakai Scandal Fallout

Over 70 Companies Pull Ads as Network Faces Intense Scrutiny.

The fallout from the Masahiro Nakai sexual misconduct scandal has escalated, with FujiTV’s president, Minato Koichi, and chairman, Kano Shuji, resigning to take responsibility for the network’s mishandling of the incident.

The scandal has led to widespread criticism, with over 70 Japanese companies suspending their commercials on the network.

At a marathon 10-hour press conference, Minato admitted to Fuji TV’s “shortcomings” in addressing the allegations, acknowledging a lack of awareness regarding human rights.

“I feel deeply the weight of my responsibility for undermining trust in the media,” he said.

The network faced backlash for its delayed response and initial reluctance to launch an independent investigation.

Masahiro, a prominent entertainer, retired from the industry last week after apologizing to the woman involved.

Fuji TV has since appointed Shimizu Kenji as its new president, who vowed to strengthen governance and uphold human rights.

An independent investigation, expected to conclude by March, will determine further accountability among executives.

The scandal has also shed light on allegations of Fuji TV officials involving female employees in entertaining celebrities, a practice the investigation will examine.

Despite the network’s denials of employee involvement in arranging the controversial meeting, public trust remains severely damaged.

Media experts criticized the network’s evasive stance, calling for greater transparency and accountability.
