SNH48 Fined Millions by Chinese Authorities Over Video Compliance Issues

SNH48's agency, Siba Media, has recently faced financial penalties from the Chinese government due to violations in video documentation regulations.

According to information from the Tianyancha platform, Shanghai Siba Media was fined 1,500 yuan—equivalent to approximately $207—by the Bureau of Culture, Broadcasting, Tourism, and Sports in the High-Tech Industrial Development Zone of Hangzhou (Binjiang).

The fine was imposed due to the agency’s failure to provide live video recordings of the "Best Partner Hangzhou" event, as mandated by the Regulations on the Management of Commercial Performances.

These regulations require that entertainment companies document all commercial performances in compliance with Chinese law.

This particular fine marks the first direct sanction SNH48 has encountered from Chinese authorities.

The case has attracted significant attention, as it highlights the strict regulations governing commercial performance permits in China.

Authorities have increased scrutiny on the entertainment industry to ensure proper licensing and documentation, and the SNH48 penalty reflects the government's commitment to enforcement.

Entertainment companies in China are urged to comply with documentation requirements for each performance.

Adherence to these rules not only preserves compliance but also protects artists, audiences, and the cultural landscape.
