| Where Was Carrie Filmed? All 2026 Prime Video Series Shooting Locations Revealed. |
Amazon’s Carrie (2026) was filmed across Metro Vancouver, British Columbia, using real school buildings, transformed heritage streets and purpose-built studio sets to create its fictional Maine setting. The eight-part supernatural drama moves between Carrie White’s oppressive home life, the halls of Ewen High School and the streets of Chamberlain, and the production used distinctly different locations to give each part of that world its own look. Not every precise filming spot was publicly identified while cameras were rolling, which is hardly surprising for a production involving large crews, stunts and major effects. Revealing every detail during filming can attract unwanted visitors and disrupt a working set, so some locations only become clearer after production has wrapped.
The series, developed and showrun by Mike Flanagan for Amazon Prime Video, is a contemporary reworking of Stephen King’s 1974 novel. Its 2026 setting brings smartphones, social media recordings and online harassment into Carrie’s story, but the production still needed locations capable of selling the familiar American small-town atmosphere. Metro Vancouver proved remarkably flexible for the job, doubling for everything from a high school campus to a fictional Maine downtown.
Eric Hamber Secondary School in Vancouver is one of the most recognisable locations used for Carrie. Located at 5025 Willow Street, the school stands in for Ewen High School, where Carrie is thrown into public life after years of isolation at home. The production used the campus for corridors, lockers, student walkways and other school sequences, allowing the fictional school to feel like an actual functioning institution rather than an obviously constructed television set.
The school also provides the setting for some of the story's most important early scenes. The locker rooms and communal shower areas were used for the sequence in which Carrie experiences her first period and becomes the target of a humiliating prank recorded on smartphones. It is a particularly important location because the incident sets the supernatural story in motion while establishing how quickly private cruelty can become public in the series' digital-era setting.
The gymnasium at Eric Hamber Secondary School also plays a major role, becoming the setting for the senior prom. The production transformed the space into the elaborate event where Carrie and Tommy Ross are crowned, before Chris Hargensen and Billy Nolan's plan turns the evening into catastrophe. The gym therefore has to carry two very different moods: an ordinary school celebration and the devastating supernatural climax that follows.
The exterior of Eric Hamber was equally useful. Student arrivals, outdoor conversations, pedestrian movement and school drop-off sequences could all be filmed around the existing campus. Production activity also affected parts of Willow Street between West 33rd and West 37th Avenue during filming, giving the Vancouver location a brief taste of life as a fictional Maine high school.
For a little extra Vancouver atmosphere, Queen Elizabeth Park fits naturally into a trip centred on the school location. The park sits a short distance from Eric Hamber and offers another striking piece of Vancouver scenery, with landscaped grounds and elevated views across the city. It obviously looks rather less like troubled small-town Maine and rather more like Vancouver showing off, but that is part of the appeal if you are planning a location-hunting day.
The production then moved into Cloverdale in Surrey, where the 176th Street corridor and surrounding blocks were transformed into downtown Chamberlain, Maine. This was one of the more ambitious location makeovers because existing streets and businesses had to be altered to fit the fictional town. Heritage buildings received new façades, signs and period-style details, creating the impression of a small American community without the production having to build an entire town from scratch.
Among the fictionalised locations were the Chamberlain Public Library and Skent's Hardware, with local storefronts dressed to become part of Carrie's world. The transformation demonstrates one of the advantages of shooting around Metro Vancouver: an ordinary commercial street can be dressed for another country and another fictional state, and suddenly it becomes somewhere else entirely.
Cloverdale also became the setting for the escalating chaos outside the school. The production staged pedestrian scenes involving power failures and strange telekinetic disturbances before moving into much larger stunt work. Several nights of filming involved vehicles, practical fire effects, damaged street infrastructure and other controlled destruction. In other words, the quiet-looking Surrey streets had considerably more drama happening after dark than their everyday appearance would suggest.
If you are already visiting Cloverdale, Historic Stewart Farm offers another destination that works well with the old-town atmosphere of the area. The heritage property provides a very different visual experience from the modern streets of Metro Vancouver and makes the Surrey leg of a Carrie location trip feel less like simply driving from one filming address to another.
The production's most controlled environment was The Bridge Studios in Burnaby, where extensive interior work was carried out. The studio complex provided the space needed for sets that could not reasonably be filmed inside a functioning school or residential property, particularly scenes requiring complicated effects and carefully controlled destruction.
Among the major builds was the White family home, the oppressive residence where Carrie has spent most of her life under Margaret White's strict control. Rather than depending entirely on an existing house, the production could construct interiors specifically around the camera, lighting and performance requirements. That was especially useful for the cramped rooms and religious spaces that define Carrie's childhood.
The famous prayer closet was also recreated as part of the controlled interior environment. The studio allowed the filmmakers to build the household around the psychological needs of the story, rather than simply finding a real property that happened to have the right number of rooms. It also gave the effects team somewhere to work safely when Carrie begins testing the limits of her telekinetic abilities.
Bridge Studios was particularly important for Carrie's supernatural sequences. Wirework, levitation, moving objects, exploding light fixtures, water effects and other practical elements could be performed in an environment designed around the required safety measures. The mechanical system used for the prom blood-drop sequence was another effect that benefited from a controlled stage rather than a busy real-world location.
The studio also handled green-screen work and destruction scenes involving fire, falling debris and other effects that would have been considerably more complicated to execute inside an operating school. This is where Carrie's three-location strategy becomes clearer: Vancouver supplied the authentic school environment, Surrey provided the town and Burnaby offered the controlled space required when things inevitably start going very wrong.
The choice of Metro Vancouver is particularly effective for this version of Carrie. The region can move from urban streets to heritage townscapes and large production stages without making the fictional geography feel completely disconnected. A Vancouver school can become Maine, a Surrey commercial district can become Chamberlain and a Burnaby soundstage can become the White family's deeply unsettling home. Hollywood magic, basically, except with considerably more rain and paperwork.
The locations also suit the tone of Flanagan's adaptation. Eric Hamber Secondary School gives the teenage storyline a grounded, recognisable setting, while Cloverdale provides the small-town environment that makes the later disruption feel larger. The Bridge Studios sets, meanwhile, allow the series to move fully into psychological horror without being restricted by the physical limitations of a real property.
From a viewer's perspective, the locations are arguably more interesting because they do not all look obviously cinematic. That is especially true of the school and Cloverdale streets. Seeing how ordinary Canadian locations were reshaped into Ewen High School and Chamberlain makes the series' fictional world feel less like a fantasy backdrop and more like somewhere that could plausibly exist just around the corner.
My take? The Eric Hamber school location is the standout, simply because it carries so much of the story. The corridors, showers, gym and exterior campus are tied directly to Carrie's transformation, so visiting the real place would probably give fans the strongest connection to the series. Cloverdale comes a close second because the storefront changes show just how much production design can alter an everyday street.
Bridge Studios is fascinating from a filmmaking perspective, but unless you are particularly interested in soundstage production, there is naturally less to see from the outside. Still, the contrast between these three locations is what makes the filming approach work: one feels real, one feels transformed and one is built specifically to make the impossible happen.
Principal photography began on 16 June 2025 after pre-production started in Vancouver in February, with filming continuing through late October 2025. Because productions do not necessarily publish every exact filming address while a series is in production, the locations that can be identified represent the principal places associated with the shoot rather than a guarantee that every single camera setup has been publicly documented. That distinction matters, particularly when productions are working around schools, residential areas and major effects.
So, if Carrie has you looking at Vancouver and Surrey a little differently, which location would make it onto your own travel itinerary? Would you visit the school used as Ewen High, walk through the streets transformed into Chamberlain, or simply hunt down the places where the series' most memorable scenes were created? Share which Carrie filming location you would want to see first.
