Netflix's Final Project wrapped up its first season with enough twists to satisfy most viewers, but it also quietly left behind a few unanswered questions that continue to fuel speculation about a second chapter. While the psychological thriller appeared to tie up its central mystery by exposing the mastermind behind the chaos at Campos Academy, some story threads remain surprisingly open. Netflix has yet to officially renew the Spanish-language series, but fans are already piecing together theories about where Tamara, Xavi and perhaps even Daniel could end up if the story continues.
Reactions to the Final Project ending have been mixed in the best possible way. Many viewers praised the series for blending psychological suspense, teenage drama and social commentary into a fast-paced mystery that rarely slowed down. Others felt the finale answered almost everything a little too neatly, making a follow-up seem unnecessary.
Then there are the fans who simply refuse to believe Daniel's story is over, because television has taught everyone one simple lesson: if something important happens off-screen, chances are someone is planning another surprise.
As things stand, Netflix has not announced Final Project Season 2. If the streaming platform decides the series has found enough of an audience, the most realistic release window would likely fall between late 2027 and early 2028.
A renewal would still need to go through script development, casting, filming and post-production, meaning viewers should not expect a quick return even if the project receives the green light in the near future.
One of the biggest questions hanging over a potential second season is Daniel. Season 1 revealed him as the mastermind manipulating events behind the scenes before everything spiralled into violence. Although viewers are later informed that police have arrested him, his capture never actually appears on screen.
That tiny detail has become one of the show's biggest talking points. It could be nothing more than a creative shortcut, or it could be the perfect excuse to bring him back if the writers decide the story deserves another chapter.
Should Daniel somehow escape custody or expose a larger conspiracy connected to his documentary project, Final Project Season 2 could instantly regain the suspense that made the first season so addictive.
Instead of repeating the exact same mystery, the series could shift towards psychological revenge, with Daniel targeting those responsible for bringing him down. It would also allow the writers to explore whether people truly change after trauma or simply become better at hiding their darker instincts.
The cast could also look noticeably different if a sequel moves forward. Daniela Martínez Caballero would almost certainly return as Tamara, while Tristán Maze remains essential as Xavi.
Their relationship became the emotional heart of the series, and removing either character would leave a sizeable gap. The chemistry between the pair carried much of the drama, particularly as they gradually uncovered the truth while navigating bullying, manipulation and growing feelings for each other.
The future appears less certain for Ian Sparrowe and Isabella Tena, whose characters Pato and Samantha finish Season 1 behind bars. Although flashbacks or prison scenes could offer brief appearances, their stories reached a fairly natural conclusion.
A Final Project Season w may instead introduce an entirely new circle of characters, allowing fresh conflicts to emerge while keeping familiar faces at the centre of the narrative.
Another actor worth watching is Virgilio Delgado, whose portrayal of Daniel left a stronger impression than his screen time might suggest. Since much of his downfall happened away from viewers, the writers still have room to expand his character if they choose. After all, mystery thrillers have a habit of reminding audiences that villains rarely read the script telling them when to leave.
A major challenge for Final Project Season 2 would be its setting. Graduation marks the end of life at Campos Academy, making it difficult to return to the same school corridors without feeling repetitive.
The most believable solution would be moving the story into university life. Tamara and Xavi were already preparing to attend different colleges, opening the door for a long-distance relationship filled with video calls, online misunderstandings and digital paranoia.
Considering the show's strong focus on cyber harassment, shifting much of the emotional conflict online could actually strengthen its central themes rather than weaken them. Long-distance romance also creates fresh opportunities for tension.
Trust becomes more fragile, rumours spread even faster and anonymous online threats become harder to ignore when couples are separated by hundreds of miles. If Season 1 explored how bullying can consume someone's daily life, a sequel could examine how technology continues shaping relationships long after school has ended.
Sometimes the most frightening notification isn't a horror film jump scare—it's seeing someone type for three minutes before replying with just "OK." There is another unresolved storyline that deserves attention if the series returns. Xavi's father played a significant role in the injustice that haunted Tamara long before the events of Season 1.
After Xavi handed incriminating legal documents to the authorities, viewers finally saw Tamara receive long-overdue vindication. However, the wider consequences of that revelation remain largely unexplored. A second season could examine the legal fallout, family tensions and whether accountability truly brings closure for everyone involved.
Introducing new students, university classmates or even another antagonist would also give the series room to expand without abandoning its core message. Final Project has never been simply about solving one mystery.
It has consistently explored how rumours spread, how abuse can become normalised and how people either break destructive cycles or become trapped inside them. New characters could challenge Tamara and Xavi in ways that feel fresh while continuing those themes.
For now, Final Project Season 2 remains firmly in the realm of speculation, but there is enough unfinished business to justify another instalment if Netflix decides the audience is there.
