| Huang Zitao Slams Dental Clinic Over Alleged Privacy Breach: “Trust Was Completely Broken”. (Credits: Sina/Weibo) |
Huang Zitao is making headlines again, but this time it has nothing to do with music, acting or variety shows. The Chinese singer and actor has publicly criticised a dental clinic after photos and details of his treatment allegedly appeared online without his permission, turning what should have been a routine appointment into one of the most discussed privacy controversies on Chinese social media this week.
The dispute began when a social media user identified as a dentist allegedly shared images of Huang Zitao receiving dental treatment.
According to screenshots circulating online, the post included two photographs of the star lying in a treatment chair alongside details of procedures he had undergone.
The original post may have been intended for a limited audience, but as often happens on the internet, "private" quickly became very public, with screenshots spreading across multiple platforms within hours.

That was enough to trigger a furious response from Huang Zitao, who did not hold back. In a strongly worded statement, he accused clinic staff of secretly photographing him and sharing personal information without consent.
He stressed that his identity as a celebrity was completely irrelevant to the issue, arguing that basic respect and professional standards should apply to every patient, regardless of their fame.
What made the situation even more disappointing for the actor was the personal connection behind his visit. According to Huang Zitao, he chose to return to the clinic because of his respect for a former dentist, Dr Wu, who had treated him before passing away.
Rather than trying a different practice, he returned out of loyalty and gratitude. In his view, that trust was repaid in the worst possible way.

The controversy has quickly evolved beyond a celebrity complaint. Across Chinese social media, many C-netz argued that the real issue is not fame but professional responsibility.
Healthcare providers are often entrusted with highly personal information, and many commenters believe that trust should never become promotional material. People visit dental clinics to fix their teeth, not to accidentally become part of a marketing campaign.

Some C-netz also pointed out an irony that has fuelled discussion. Celebrities are often photographed at airports, events and public appearances, but a treatment room is an entirely different setting.
Dental Clinic May Land in Serious Trouble After Huang Zitao Privacy Controversy.
Under China's Civil Code, every individual has a right to privacy, and organisations or individuals are prohibited from disclosing, photographing, publishing or handling another person's private information without consent. The law specifically protects private activities, personal information and spaces that individuals do not wish to make public.
In addition, Article 1226 of the Civil Code states that medical institutions and healthcare workers must keep patients' privacy and personal information confidential. If patient information or medical records are disclosed without permission, legal liability may follow.
China's Physicians Law further provides that doctors found responsible for revealing patient privacy or personal information may face official warnings, financial penalties and disciplinary measures. In more serious cases, authorities can suspend a doctor's practice for a period of time or revoke their professional licence altogether. The legal framework is clear: patient trust is not only an ethical obligation but also a professional responsibility protected by law.
Interestingly, even those who are not regular followers of Huang Zitao have expressed support. The discussion has shifted away from celebrity culture and towards a simple question: should anyone have to worry about being photographed during a private medical procedure? For many fans, the answer seems obvious.
