Wu Xuanyi may have finally closed one of Chinese entertainment’s messiest long-running agency chapters. The actress and singer officially launched her personal studio on 14 May, then immediately sent fans into detective mode after quietly removing the words “Yuehua Artist” from her personal profile. For many observers online, that tiny edit spoke louder than any formal press release ever could.

The new studio, named “Wuxuanyi Quanyao Studio”, introduced itself as the official management studio for the actress. Wu Xuanyi quickly followed the account herself on social media, which only fuelled growing speculation that her relationship with Yuehua Entertainment has either ended completely or reached some kind of behind-the-scenes settlement after months of public tension.

And honestly, Chinese entertainment fans notice everything. One missing label, one unfollow, one mysterious midnight profile update, and suddenly half the internet transforms into contract lawyers with screenshots.

The biggest clue came from Xuanyi’s updated Weibo introduction. Her profile now simply describes her as an “actress and singer”, with no mention of Yuehua Entertainment attached to her identity anymore.

For an industry where agency names are often glued to celebrity profiles like permanent sponsorship stickers, the change immediately became headline material.

The move arrives after months of controversy surrounding Wu Xuanyi’s reported contract dispute with Yuehua. Earlier reports claimed the company had rejected attempts to end the agreement, reportedly citing an automatic extension clause within the contract.

That detail alone triggered heated discussion online, especially among fans already frustrated with how artist-management relationships are often handled in the entertainment industry.

The dispute became even more public after a negotiation video involving Wu Xuanyi’s mother and Yuehua representatives circulated online at the end of April.  In the footage, her mother questioned the transparency surrounding her daughter’s decade-long management arrangement.

She claimed she had never been allowed to directly review important documents related to filming contracts, endorsement deals or professional schedules, despite repeatedly requesting access.

That revelation sparked another round of debate over how much visibility artists and families should actually have regarding agency agreements.

Yuehua Entertainment later responded by saying contract management falls under standard agency responsibilities and argued that direct access to all documents is not always part of existing arrangements unless specifically written into the contract itself.

The explanation did little to calm online discussion. If anything, it added more fuel to it.

Some fans defended Yuehua, saying large agencies routinely manage paperwork internally and warning people not to jump to conclusions without seeing the full contract. Others, however, sided strongly with Xuanyi and her family, arguing that artists should never feel disconnected from agreements directly tied to their careers and income. Several C-netz bluntly described the entire controversy as “another reminder that idol contracts remain one of entertainment’s biggest black boxes”.

Now, with the launch of her own studio, public opinion has shifted from frustration to cautious celebration. Across Weibo and entertainment forums, fans have described Wu Xuanyi’s latest move as a “freedom era”, with hashtags connected to her studio quickly attracting attention.

Some joked that she finally “escaped the corporate dungeon”, while others simply hoped the actress could now focus on projects without constant management disputes overshadowing her work.

The timing is also significant for Wu Xuanyi’s career. Over recent years, she has continued balancing acting, music and variety appearances while building a loyal fanbase beyond her idol origins. C-netz believe a personal studio could allow her more control over scheduling, endorsements and creative direction moving forward, especially as more Chinese stars begin operating independently or through smaller management structures.

Not everyone is convinced the situation is fully resolved. A number of netizens pointed out that neither Wu Xuanyi nor Yuehua Entertainment has officially confirmed a contract termination publicly. Some suspect negotiations may still be ongoing behind closed doors, while others believe the quiet profile change itself was intentional enough to signal a major transition without triggering another public clash.
