The Rebirth of Love (我与爱同谋) is not pretending to be a safe little romance drama, and honestly that may be exactly why Chinese drama viewers are already locked in. The upcoming fantasy suspense series starring Guan Xiaotong and Lin Yi has quietly become one of the most discussed productions currently filming in Qingdao, thanks to its unusual mix of rebirth loops, family tragedy, mystery and emotionally complicated “faux sibling” dynamics that look designed to emotionally exhaust viewers in the most deliberate way possible.

At first glance, the premise sounds deceptively simple. A blended family. Two emotionally damaged young people. A tragic past. Then suddenly the story throws in three separate lifetimes, repeated deaths, hidden conspiracies and enough emotional suffering to fuel an entire streaming platform for months. So no, this is not exactly the type of drama people casually watch while folding laundry.

The series follows Su Zhiqiu, played by Guan Xiaotong, and Song Fengxia, played by Lin Yi, two step siblings left emotionally isolated after losing their parents.

Why ‘The Rebirth of Love’ Is Already One of 2027’s Most Anticipated Chinese Dramas

Their relationship begins with mutual dependence but slowly spirals into a painful cycle of emotional restraint, misunderstanding and sacrifice.

The tragedy? They repeatedly fail to save each other across multiple reincarnation loops. Apparently destiny in this drama wakes up every morning and chooses violence.

In the first timeline, Su Zhiqiu is reborn alone and desperately attempts to prevent her brother’s death, only for both of them to end up destroyed once again. In the second loop, Song Fengxia awakens to the truth himself and secretly investigates the mystery surrounding their previous deaths, but the outcome remains equally tragic.

By the third life, both characters finally remember everything and decide to stop running from the truth altogether. Instead of sacrificing themselves separately like emotionally constipated drama protagonists, they work together to uncover the conspiracy behind their family tragedy and finally attempt to rewrite fate itself.

What immediately separates The Rebirth of Love from more conventional fantasy romances is the way its emotional dynamic constantly shifts with each reincarnation. The relationship never stays static. In one lifetime, the older brother becomes controlling and overprotective because of childhood trauma after witnessing his mother’s death.

In another, Su Zhiqiu completely takes over as the emotional leader, forcing both of them to confront feelings they spent years suppressing. By the third cycle, the entire balance changes again, with both characters openly fighting for survival, honesty and love instead of endlessly pushing each other away for “noble reasons”. A shocking development for drama characters, frankly.

The suspense element is also being heavily emphasised rather than treated as background decoration. Every rebirth gradually reveals more details surrounding the siblings’ deaths and the secrets buried within their family history.

The story reportedly builds around the mystery of why both characters continue dying in every timeline, turning the drama into part romance, part psychological thriller and part emotional endurance test for viewers who thought they signed up for something lighter.

What to Expect From ‘The Rebirth of Love’ Starring Guan Xiaotong and Lin Yi
Lin Yi and Guan Xiaotong Reunite for Third Drama Collaboration in ‘The Rebirth of Love’

Fans are especially paying attention to the reunion between Guan Xiaotong and Lin Yi, who are collaborating for the third time after Hu Tong and Go Somewhere in the Snow. Online viewers have already revived the nickname “long-legged CP” for the pair because every promotional image makes them look like two fashion models accidentally trapped inside a tragic fantasy novel.

Their visual chemistry has always drawn attention, but many viewers believe this project could finally become the collaboration that fully pushes both actors into more emotionally demanding territory.

For Guan Xiaotong, the drama marks another noticeable shift away from brighter, softer female lead roles. Su Zhiqiu is written as cold, intelligent and emotionally resilient, a woman forced to repeatedly carry the burden of remembering trauma nobody else understands.

Early discussions online suggest viewers are particularly curious to see how she handles the increasingly darker emotional material. Some netizens even joked that the actress looks “too calm for someone who keeps watching destiny ruin her life three times in a row”.

Meanwhile, Lin Yi appears to be taking one of the biggest acting risks of his career with Song Fengxia. Known for his softer romantic image in previous dramas, he is now stepping into a far heavier psychological role involving trauma, guilt, emotional repression and self-destructive behaviour.

Fans have already pointed out that his recent projects show a clear attempt to move beyond straightforward youth romance characters, and this drama may become the project that fully changes public perception of his acting range.

The production itself is also attracting attention because Ruyi Film is reportedly developing both a film and drama adaptation simultaneously, something still relatively uncommon for projects in this genre.

Guan Xiaotong and Lin Yi’s New Drama ‘The Rebirth of Love’ Is Already Fueling Online Debate

The creative team further raises expectations, with chief producer Chen Zhixi, known for major emotional hits including Hi, Mom, attached alongside director Cai Erduo, whose visual style in Lighting Store gained praise for balancing realism with surreal emotional tension.

The supporting cast is hardly lightweight either. Veteran actors including Liu Yijun, Wang Ou and Song Yang will reportedly make special appearances, while Yao Chen, Cecilia Boey and Wang Zixuan round out the ensemble. The casting choices suggest the production is aiming for something far more layered than a standard idol fantasy romance.

Some viewers are already obsessed with the emotionally destructive premise and calling it one of the most promising Chinese dramas of 2027. Others remain slightly nervous about the “faux sibling” aspect, although many fans argue the emotional focus appears rooted more in trauma, fate and redemption rather than cheap shock value. There are also viewers cautiously wondering whether the series can actually maintain narrative logic across three timelines without collapsing into confusion halfway through. Considering how many reincarnation dramas start strong before turning into mathematical equations by episode eight, the concern is understandable.

Beyond the fantasy and romance elements, the series also seems deeply interested in themes of trauma recovery and emotional survival. At its core, The Rebirth of Love asks whether love can truly become a strategy for escaping fate, or whether some wounds simply follow people across every version of their lives. Underneath all the reincarnation mechanics and mystery twists, the story appears less concerned with fantasy itself and more focused on what people are willing to sacrifice to protect someone they cannot bear to lose again.

The drama is currently expected to premiere sometime between Q2 and Q3 of 2027, which means viewers still have a painfully long wait ahead. Until then, filming leaks, fan theories and timeline breakdowns will probably continue flooding social media every few weeks as audiences attempt to figure out who dies first in each loop before the official trailers even arrive.

And honestly, if a drama about repeated death, emotional repression and destiny manipulation already has viewers emotionally stressed during filming, the final broadcast may end up becoming absolute chaos online. The real question now is whether audiences are ready for another romance where happiness apparently requires surviving three lifetimes first.
