Song Weilong didn’t need a new drama to trend this week — just a school uniform and a familiar campus did the job. The 27-year-old actor’s latest commercial shoot, filmed at the same location used for Go Ahead, has quietly reignited his “campus heartthrob” status, with fresh photos circulating fast and doing exactly what they were meant to do: remind everyone he still looks suspiciously like he hasn’t aged a day.

The timing is hardly accidental. After the January success of Shine On Me (驕陽似我), starring Song Weilong alongside Zhao Jinmai, both actors have seen their profiles climb sharply, with brand deals and scripts reportedly stacking up.

This latest campaign feels less like a routine shoot and more like a calculated nostalgia play — and it’s working.

Photos from the set show Song Weilong in two contrasting school looks: a relaxed sports uniform and a sharper blazer-style outfit.

Either way, the result is the same — clean-cut, composed, and still convincingly cast as a teenager despite being closer to 30.

Fans were quick to point out the déjà vu, with many saying it felt like stepping straight back into 2020, when he starred in Go Ahead (以家人之名) alongside Tan Songyun and Zhang Xincheng

Back then, his portrayal of a character ageing from 18 to 27 already blurred timelines; now, he seems to be doing it in real life.

Netizen reactions have been predictably loud and slightly chaotic.

Some praised his unchanged visuals, calling him a “permanent high schooler” with a straight face. Others leaned into humour, suggesting he’s discovered the secret to reverse ageing.

Then came the comparisons — and they didn’t hold back. A noticeable chunk of online chatter fixated on how much he resembles Zhang Linghe, particularly his look in Pursuit of Jade (逐玉)

The phrase “copy-paste visuals” appeared more than once, with some joking that casting directors could swap the two without anyone noticing.

That comparison gained traction partly because Zhang Linghe has also recently worn a school uniform on screen, reuniting with Zhao Jinmai in Our Generation (櫻桃琥珀)

Put the two actors side by side and, yes, there are similarities — tall frames, sharp brows, polished features — but the debate over who carries the “stronger” campus aura remains unresolved.

If anything, it has turned into a stalemate, with fans on both sides insisting their favourite brings a different flavour of charm.

Looking ahead, the actor isn’t short on material.

Two unreleased dramas are already lined up, including Love for You (野狗骨頭) with Zhang Jingyi, a story centred on emotional healing within a complicated family dynamic, and Eternal Fragrance (千香), where he stars opposite Ju Jingyi in a more fantastical romance shaped by fate and conflict.

Both projects have been quietly building anticipation, and if this latest buzz is any indication, audiences are more than ready.

For now, though, a simple uniform has done what months of promotion sometimes cannot — put Song Weilong right back in the spotlight, with just enough nostalgia and just enough debate to keep people talking.

The real question is whether this renewed campus image is a one-off moment or a deliberate reset. Either way, the internet has already picked its side — or several sides, loudly. What do you reckon: timeless visuals or just very good lighting?
