Chinese screen star Yang Mi has crossed a major box office milestone after her latest cinema release Scare Out (惊蛰无声) helped push the combined earnings of her filmography beyond 10 billion yuan. Ticketing platform data published on 2 March shows the total gross of films featuring Yang Mi—including voice roles—has now passed the landmark figure, cementing her position among the most commercially successful actresses in the Chinese film industry.

The figure reflects cumulative earnings from projects where Yang Mi appears as lead or major supporting cast, as well as animation titles where she contributed voice acting. With that tally now exceeding 10 billion yuan, she currently sits eighth on the list of actresses with the highest total box office revenue.

The rankings remain tightly contested. Actress and comedian Jia Ling is close behind in ninth place with approximately 9.99 billion yuan in total box office revenue.

The actresses above Yang Mi include some of the most commercially bankable names in mainland cinema, highlighting how competitive the list has become in recent years.

According to data from Maoyan Professional Edition, Yang Mi has appeared in 32 films across live-action productions and animated features.

Among them, two titles have crossed the one-billion-yuan mark individually. Her latest release Scare Out has already accumulated roughly 1.114 billion yuan, making it one of the strongest performers in her career.

Another major hit came from the fantasy blockbuster A Writer’s Odyssey, where Yang Mi starred alongside Lei Jiayin. That film brought in approximately 1.035 billion yuan at the box office and remains one of the defining commercial successes in her filmography.

Animation has also played a role in boosting her overall tally. Yang Mi provided the Chinese voice for the character Tigress in Kung Fu Panda 3, a global animated release that recorded around 1.002 billion yuan in China alone, adding another substantial contribution to her career earnings.

Fans and netizens have reacted with mixed but lively discussions across social platforms.

Many praised Yang Mi for maintaining commercial appeal after years in both television dramas and cinema, calling the 10-billion-yuan milestone a sign of her enduring market value.

Others pointed out that several of the biggest figures come from ensemble or dubbed projects, sparking debate about how individual star power should be measured in box office rankings.

Still, supporters argue that longevity in the industry is just as important as a single blockbuster.

For them, Yang Mi’s ability to remain active across genres—from fantasy epics to animation voice work—shows the kind of adaptability that keeps an actress relevant in a fast-moving film market. With Scare Out still screening in cinemas, the numbers could climb even higher in the coming weeks.

The milestone also raises a bigger question for observers of the Chinese film industry: can Yang Mi continue rising through the rankings and challenge the actresses above her? Share your thoughts—does this box office achievement reflect star power, strong projects, or a bit of both?
